The Suyeong Bay area in Busan was packed on the evening of October 8, when the opening ceremony of the 14th Pusan International Film Festival was held. All 5,000 seats of the venue were filled. The less fortunate ones among the movie fans had to stay outside.
Red Carpet Gowns Gowns with low-cut backs were the leading trend at this year's red carpet ceremony. Despite the chilly fall weather, many actresses appeared in surprisingly low-cut gowns. Han Hye-jin's gray dress with a low-cut back evoked loud cheers from the fans. Han Ye-seul's white gown made many fans shout out, "You look so beautiful". Kim So-yeon showed up in red, while Han Eun-jeong chose white. Jeon Do-yeon, who made a public appearance for the first time since giving birth to her baby, was wearing an airy gown with a slightly see-through front. Jeon Hye-bin, Choi Kang-hee, Chae Min-seo, Choi Jeong-won, Lee Ha-na and Jeong Ryeo-won also appeared in bold gowns. Kang Soo-yeon and Jang Mi-hee, who are alrea...| More

Contributing Writer The movie pamphlets, posters and TV commercials for "Kabal (The Wig)" - "Scary Hair" do not do this psychological shock-horror movie justice. Although there are underlying sexual politics at work in Director Won Sin-Yeon feature film debut, they did not warrant billing the film as just a common variety summer sex tease. Won hardly got his money's worth from the people marketing "The Wig". Someone should have told the promotion team that shock-horror also sells, and "The Wig" delivers with several good scares. Though the deeper psychological elements were weakly executed by the novice director, he can be excused considering he had but one demonic wig to work with. That demonic wig is not just scary-looking, it moves, too _ even flies. Some of the movie's more startling moments derive from the animated hairpiece leaping out at our moody leading ladies. At least four good shockers, perhaps more depending on how you count them, come...| More
July 02, 2005 ㅡ There's no better way to cool off during an already steamy summer than by watching a chilling horror movie. But horror movies are moving away from simple shocking images and instead strengthening the drama. The legacy from previous blockbuster horror films such as "The Ring" and "The Eye" can be found in current films. Gore is out, and mind thrillers are in: audiences also seem to crave more psychological thrillers over meaningless bloodbaths. The Japanese movie "The Ring" in 1998 marked a turning point in modern horror movies. The long-haired Oriental ghost petrified Westerners. In addition to "The Ring", "Ju-on" ― a Japanese horror movie about a baby ghost ― was successively remade as "The Grudge" and fared well at the box office. "The Ring" portrays a killer ghost. Without knowing the coming d...| More
