Staff Reporter Experience is speaking volubly on the small screen these days, as former teen stars and now middle-aged veteran actors have made comebacks. Local dramas have been favored ― and criticized - for pretty but inexperienced new faces depicting love triangles and romantic stories. However, many female viewers in their late 20s, 30s and 40s have noticed the charms of the realistic world of politics, both office and real life, portrayed by older actors who may not be young and fresh, but have the charisma and experience to lead. The current most popular Monday-Tuesday period drama "Queen Seon-deok" (MBC) stars Ko Hyeon-jeong as the femme fatale Mi-shil of the Shilla Kingdom. The series may be the first period drama of her acting career, but the 38-year-old actor is making headlines. "I watch the drama because of Ko. The other characters are interesting, but Ko does a great job portraying the mean, yet charismatic Mi-shil", Youn Myung-sook, 51,...| More
The May 31 episode of "The Iron Empress" featured conflict between Hwang Bo-su (Chae Si-ra) and her son, Prince Gaeryeong (Lee In), over power succession.Nearing death due to an illness and having no rightful heir, King Seongjong (Kim Myeong-soo) decided to hand over the throne to Prince Gaeryeong, who had been deprived of his right to the throne over his mother's attempt to dethrone the king. Hwang was released from exile and came to see her son. "At last you are to become a king", she said. But Prince Gaeryeong replied, "I don't want to be a king. There is no good reason for me to become a king. Please tell that to the king". This made Hwang angry, and she said, "Don't you know how many people had to sacrifice themselves to make you a king". The prince said, "That is exactly why I don't want to be a king. I don't really care at all about the bloodstained throne". He continued, "Do you have any idea about what the throne means to me? It's a curse to me. It pitted the one ...| More

On the May 23 episode of "The Iron Empress", Hwang Bo-su, played by Chae Si-ra, finally carried out a coup where her followers captured King Seongjong, played by Kim Myeong-soo.Hwang had been concerned that Goryeo would be put in danger again as the king tried to depend on the Song Dynasty of China for its defense rather than trying to strengthen its own power when it had recently had a war with the Khitan people. Hwang and her followers had made thorough preparations for the coup by winning over political rivals; organizing militias; getting rid of Prince Daeryang, the rival of Prince Gaeryeong; causing a stir among people; and seizing the military power in the palace. But Prince Gaeryeong, who would succeed to the throne in case of the ousting of King Seongjong, has lost confidence in his own ability since learning that he is epileptic. He was also displeased that Hwang was trying to cause damage to her own brother, King Seongjong. Queen Munhwa (Moon Jung-hee) asked Choi...| More
