[HanCinema's Box Office Review] 2015.10.02 ~ 2015.10.04 2015/10/05, "The Intern" rises to the top while Ryoo Seung-wan's "Veteran" breaks another record… Nancy Meyers' "The Intern" has dislodged Lee Joon-ik's popular period piece "The Throne" to become the country's new number one. Lee's latest has been sitting pretty at the top for three weeks now, and since its release mid-August it's managed to amass a total tally of 5.5 million admissions, 492 thousand of which came from this past weekend. But a second week in the charts has helped raised Meyer's film to the top in a tightly contested weekend where the podium placements could have gone either way,...More
[HanCinema's Box Office Review] 2015.09.25 ~ 2015.09.27 2015/09/28, Lee Joon-ik's "The Throne" still reigns supreme…
For the second week in a row, Lee Joon-ik's timely period piece "The Throne" has claimed the top spot by adding another 1.2 million admissions to its total tally. Lee's depiction of the cruel fate of Prince Sado entered the charts on the 16th, and, with the Chuseok weekend included, now stands at 3.5 million admissions ($23.9 million). "The Throne" had to compete with a string of new releases leading up to Korea's harvest holiday but ultimately managed to capture 36.9% of the box office pie to remain in pole position,...More
[2010 10Asia's Awards] Drama and Director of the Year 2010/12/31, Source, Just like the results on year-end awards ceremonies, no choice will be supported by everyone. A drama cannot be considered 'better' just because more people have seen it nor can it be considered 'proper' just because more people like it. The drama, director, writer and actor of the year picked by the reporters and critics of 10Asia are strictly based on personal taste. The value of KBS TV series "The Slave Hunter" will not diminish just because KBS drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" beat it out by one vote to take the title of drama of the year. And the fact that while last year, actress Ko Hyeon-jeong received an overwhelming number of the votes for her role in MBC's "Queen Seon-deok" for best actress, but that this year Jang Hyeok and many other names were mentioned, may be proof that the Korean drama industry depicted on a larger variety of people. But one thing 10Asia can tell you for sure is that our writers have observed and loved Korean dramas during the past year like no other. So please, just sit back and enjoy.

[2010 10Asia's Awards] Writer & Actor of the Year 2010/12/31, Source, ────── Writer of the Year: Kim Su-hyun ──────
Writer Kim Su-hyun [10Asia]
It is still Kim Su-hyun. Her SBS TV series "Life is Beautiful" may have seen slightly lower ratings than her previous works and the various controversies surrounding the show for the fact that it dealt with homosexuality, one of the hottest issues of debate in Korean society, may have left little space for it to be evaluated properly. But paradoxically, this showed that Kim, who has been a symbol in Korean TV writing history for over 40 years now, is "proof that she, headed into her seventies, still makes dramas that have an actual impact on reality, are controversial, and are 'real'",...More
[2010 10Asia's Awards] "Thank You" List 2010/12/31, Source, There are things that cannot be expressed through annual awards ceremonies. The big trophies are not enough to describe the gratitude we feel for the dramas that contributed to brightening our days during the past year. This is why 10Asia is presenting the "Thank You" list in which we selected 10 memorable dramas. This is a shout-out to all those dramas that at time melted our hearts with highly appealing looks, made our hands and feet cringe yet leave our eyes and mouths smiling with famous lines, delighted us at the mere sight of some characters and left the single viewers green with jealously with the romance scenes. Let us thank all these dramas that took our emotions on a most exciting roller coaster ride. So thank you! Eye-Cleanser of the YearKBS2 TV "Sungkyunkwan Scandal": Jalgeum Quartet

[INTERVIEW] KBS drama "SungKyunKwan Scandal" writer Kim Tae-heui - Part 2 2010/11/05, Source,
Writer Kim Tae-heui [Lee Jin-hyuk/10Asia]
10: After episode 15, it seemed that you were trying to insert more stories into the drama and that caused some trouble to the flow of the drama. What do you regret the most? Kim Tae-heui: I still don't know whether it was because I added “Geumdeungjisa” then rushed in having to wrap up the latter half of the story, or whether I should have just dealt with it probably and made the story longer. But I was worried that may lower the ratings for the show. (laugh). I tend to make my scripts long so most of the portions edited beforehand in the script was usually about Geumdeungjisa. It's something I'll reflect upon now and in the future when I do the next project. 10: But on the other hand, I believe there was a reason you included Geumdeungjisa episode in the drama, as a writer. Kim Tae-heui: A girl in disguise as a boy didn't seem strong enough of an impact for the story. I was also worried with what else I should keep up the tension of the story after Yoo-hee's gender is revealed. And Geumdeungjisa was necessary in turning the original story into a drama. For example Hongbyeokseo (the red messenger) in the book tells a lot about problems in society but in doing the same thing in drama, it could be easily forgotten so I needed something to bring all the main characters together. Also, by linking it with King Jeongjo's reform plan I thought I could make the story much richer,...More

[INTERVIEW and PHOTOS] Rain says "want to brag" about MTV Movie Awards win 2010/06/08, Source,
Korean entertainer Rain in Los Angeles [photographed by Chae Ki-won/10Asia]
Rain says "really want to brag about this one", referring to his win at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards It was only a year ago that Rain was overwhelmed after winning a trophy at an awards ceremony which looked a lot like the MTV Video Music Awards. Of course, it was a television commercial for a Korean mobile telephone company. When Rain gave his acceptation speech at the fully-packed venue amidst the applause from the crowd, the sight looked so unattainable that it felt like "a miracle" or "a fictional news event". But this young man, who claims that "a miracle is something you create, not something somebody hands you", has eventually grabbed that very dream in his hand. Instead of uttering some unknown magic words, Rain endured extremely demanding, five-hours-a-day training sessions and kept on running like "a tiger on the verge of starving to death" to make it to the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. At the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, 10Asia met with Rain -- a man who, like his name, exudes a freshness to the desert-adjacent, hot city of Los Angeles,...More
