Sin Min-ah Joins "Go go 70" Cast

Sin Min-ah has been cast in CHOI Ho's "Go go 70". The film portrays the 70s nightlife in Korea and the story will focus on a go go band and the club where the band performs. Jo Seung-woo had already been cast as the lead vocalist of the band. SIN's character is a volunteer who helps the band. The guitarist of the band will be a role for CHA Seung-woo, the guitarist of the punk band No Brain.

SIN grabbed attention with her role in the popular martial arts comedy Volcano High and she also starred in KIM Ji-woon's acclaimed "A Bittersweet Life".

SIN is currently filming BOO Ji-yeung's Jigeum Idaeroga Johayo (English translation: "I love the way it is now") about two sisters (SIN and KONG Hyo-jin) with opposing characters who learn to appreciate each other when they need to collaborate in order to find their father who left them. BOO is a recognized short film director and Jigeum Idaeroga Johayo is her feature film directorial debut.

KIM Ah-joong, RYOO Seung-beom and JO Seung-woo in Music Film

Director CHOI Ho assembled an all-star cast consisting of KIM Ah-joong, RYOO Seung-beom and JO Seung-woo for his next film "Gogo 70". The music film will be centered around a band and the first gogo club in Korea in the seventies.

Director CHOI and RYOO join forces again after their collaboration on last year's crime film "Bloody Tie". RYOO also featured in his brother RYOO Seung-wan's acclaimed boxing drama "Crying Fist" and popular martial arts comedy "Arahan".

KIM rose to fame last year through another music film, "200 Pounds Beauty". KIM Yong-hwa's music comedy instantly turned her into a pan-Asian star. She portrayed an overweight singer who chooses drastic cosmetic surgery.

JO starred in the blockbusters "Tazza: The High Rollers" ("The War of Flower") and "MARATHON". He also played in IM Kwon-taek's "Chunhyang" and "Low Life".

Deep film legacy draws director back to the lens

Ha Myeong-joong will never forget the last phone conversation he had with his older brother in early 1979. "You should be a director, not an actor", thundered his sibling, who, at 4 a.m. was obviously under the influence of alcohol.
That older brother was Ha Gil-jong, a star director known for making films that were critical of the military regimes.
"Okay, I will keep that in mind", answered Ha, who was then a well-regarded actor whose fame had spread to Hong Kong and Japan.
Ha said that there was something in his brother's voice that he could not resist.
Shortly after the phone conversation, Ha Gil-jong had a stroke and died three days later, at the age of 38.
At the funeral Ha hugged his brother's coffin and, with tears in his eyes, swore that he would honor his deceased brother's wishes. He made his directorial debut soon after, in 1983.
Ha soon felt his older brother's premonition had been accurate.

HAN Hyo-joo and Like a Virgin Win at Singapore Fest

Upcoming actress HAN Hyo-joo received the Best Actress award at the 20th Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) for her role in "Ad-Lib Night" (Ajoo Teukbyeolhan Sonnim). "Like a Virgin" (Cheonhajangsa Madonna) shares the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) award with "Crossing the Dust".

"Ad-Lib Night" tells the story of a girl who agrees to pretend to be the daughter of a dying man. The film is directed by the acclaimed LEE Yoon-ki. LEE's two previous films are "This Charming Girl" (Yeoja, Jeonghye) and "Love Talk". "This Charming Girl"'s KIM Ji-soo previously received the Best Actress award at SIFF in 2005.

In "Like a Virgin" a boy joins a wrestling team. His aim is to win a wrestling competition and to use the prize money for a transsexual operation. The film is the directorial debut of LEE Hae-yeong and LEE Hae-joon. Like "Ad-Lib Night" for the promising HAN Hyo-joo, "Like a Virgin" has been a platform for the talented young actor RYOO Deok-hwan.

14 Korean Films go to Italy's Far East Fest

The 9th Udine Far East Film Festival boasts one of the largest showcases of Asian cinema in Europe. This year around 60 titles from across Asia were selected to screen at the event which runs April 20th to 28th in the picturesque northern Italian city. This year 14 top Korean films were invited, of which several will have their International Premiere at the festival.

Making their International festival debut are LEE Jeong-beom's gangster-themed drama "Cruel Winter Blues", JANG Jin's comedy-noir "Righteous Ties", JANG Moon-il's romantic-comedy "A Good Day for an Affair", BYEON Seung-wook's drama "Solace".
