TV Dramas Gear Up for Post-Olympics Race

The Beijing Olympic Games will end Sunday, so what is worth seeing after the Olympic flame goes out? For TV fans, major networks are gearing up for a competition with their most anticipated dramas.

MBC will start the race off with "East of Eden" Monday. The drama has made headlines with its star-studded cast even before shooting, with big names like Song Seung-heon, Yeon Jeong-hoon, Lee Da-hae and Han Ji-Hye and veteran actors Yoo Dong-geon and Lee Mi-sook.

The drama is the first for Song and Yeon since they got out of the Army.

The 50-part series cost 25 billion won and tells of the brothers Dong-chul (Song) and Dong-wook (Yeon). Their fates diverge after the murder of their coal miner father, with one joining the mob and the other becoming a successful lawyer.

Actor Song Seung-heon Cast in New MBC Drama 'East of Eden'

Actor Song Seung-heon will be returning to the small screen for the first time in five years through the brand new MBC drama series 'East of Eden'. Song, who is currently busy with the drama shoot, recently told reporters that he definitely feels the pressure of everyone's expectations over his comeback as he had been away for so long. At the same time, the hunky actor added that he is excited and confident about his upcoming role in the new drama series.

'East of Eden' is an epic 50-part drama series that begins in a mining village in the 1960s. The drama stars some of Korea's most celebrated actors including Lee Mi-sook, Yoo Dong-geun, Jo Min-ki, Han Ji-hye, Lee Da-hae, Yoon Jeong-hoon, Lee Yeon-hee and Park Hae-ji.

Song takes on the role of Lee Dong-chul who has had one clear goal and purpose in life from early childhood—to take revenge on the man responsible for taking his father's life.

Han Ji-hye Sings Beijing Olympics Theme Song

Yedang Entertainment announced that actress Han Ji-hye participated in the recording of "Friends ", the official theme song for swimming at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"Friends " was a joint effort produced by China's National Olympic Committee, WBBN and Korea's The Saem Entertainment. There are two versions of the song, Korean and Chinese, which were sung by actress Han Ji-hye and the Chinese star, William, respectively.

At the earliest, "Friends" may begin playing today at the Water Cube, the main swimming pool for the Beijing Olympics. It will also sound out over the arena for the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and the 2010 Shanghai Expo.

"We received a formal request from the organizing committee of the Beijing Olympics and believed this would be a great step towards solidifying Korea-China relations", explained Yedang Entertainment. "We just wish we could have prepared 'Friends ' in time for the opening ceremony"....| More
