"Radio Dayz" is a feel-good comedy set during the Japanese colonisation of Korea in the early 20th century and revolves around a group of radio employees who develop a radio drama that captures the heart of Korean audiences.
Ryoo Seung-beom ("Arahan", "Crying Fist") plays a laid-back and resourceful radio producer who decides to hire a writer for a radio drama format. However, the radio drama encounters numerous problems before it succeeds in captivating audiences. A major problem is the character portrayed by KIM Sa-rang (Who Slept with Her ("Sexy Teacher")), a famous singer with star attitude, who – while broadcasting live – decides to create some more lines for herself whenever she feels she isn't quite in the spotlight; resulting in a plot turned upside down and everybody else confused. KIM's character envies HWANG Bo-ra's character who has the female lead role in the radio drama. KO Ah-seong – the girl captured by the monster in "The Host" – plays a quirky girl who helps ...| More
Jeong Yoon-cheol and the cast from "Shim's Family" met with reporters last week after the premiere at Yongsan CGV theater. Aside from Cheon Ho-jin, the veteran film actor, the rest of the cast is new to film. Moon Hee-kyeong is a musical actress and Yoo Ah-in a sitcom actor. Hwang Bo-ra, 24, a new face in television ramen commercials, put on her best "space cadet" look for "Shim's Family". An interview with Hwang follows.Q.How was it to be acting for the first time in a film? A. I had great expectations for this film. I looked really fat, but that's what I intended. I am on a diet again. Oh, and we had to put on mosquito repellent because we filmed in the summer near the Han River. If I have the chance, I'd love to play a role in a melodrama next time, like a girl who falls madly in love with someone. I'd also like to act in an action film. Thank you. What was it like to act with a big star like Park Hae-il in your first movie? (Her eyes wide) I was always a great fan of his....| More

Ta-da-da-dum. They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky. They're all together hooky, they're "Shim's Family".This family does not descend from witches and ghouls, but the faces they make at each other at the breakfast table every morning are just as dreadful. After making a touching film about an autistic marathon runner, director Jeong Yoon-cheol changed his artistic bent to present "Shim's Family", an utterly satirical profile of a bizarre Korean nuclear family. The family members hate each other so much that the characters often cry out that they "embarrass the hell" out of each other ― although it's hard to figure out who is actually embarrassing whom. The tiresome father (played by Cheon Ho-jin) is a boring English teacher who goes to school each day for another pointless exercise in being laughed at. The cranky mother (Moon Hui-kyung) is sick and tired of being treated as a "mere maid" who serves meals to the family. Their weird high school-aged son (Yoo A...| More
The institution of the family has long been protected and justified in Korea and elsewhere. But the time-honored system is struggling to survive. A common thread, namely the sugarcoated idea (or ideal) of happy family members living together, is disappearing fast. It's time to say goodbye to the glorious family-oriented era. Or is it?
"Shim's Family", directed by Jeong Yoon-cheol, suggests there are indeed many disheartening developments that deal a lethal, if not final, blow to the family system in Korea. But it also puts forward a new vision that may shed light on where today's trouble-laden family system should go - or sit still and hold onto its shabby place, tooth and nail. Shim's family is utterly dysfunctional, if not chaotic. The father (Cheon Ho-jin) is a supposedly widely respected school teacher but his everyday life is saddled with suffocating routines. At school, he cannot punish even an unruly student who dares to send text messages during his class. In this wonder...| More
