'Dae Jang Geum' festival to be held in Japan

'Dae Jang Geum Festival', featuring music and dance, videos, etc. of the most popular Hallyu drama series 'Dae Jang Geum', will be held on August 11th at Tokyo Dome.

The event which is being sponsored by the Korea Tourism Organization will feature the main actors and actresses including Lee Young-ae, Ji Jin-Hee, Im Ho, Kyeon Miri, Yeo Woon-kye, Im Hyeon-sik, Jo Jeong-eun, Kim So-i, and others who will greet fans on stage and deliver a message of appreciation.

Shin Seung Hoon will also perform his hit song 'I Believe' and others while Moriyama Ryoko who released a Hallyu drama OST will perform a song from the Dae Jang Geum OST.

The cast will ride the special "Dae Jang Geum" plane provided by Asiana Airlines as part of their Hallyu marketing going from Gimpo to Japan.

The storyline for the movie "Wedding Campaign" (directed and written by Hwang Byeong-gook) is so simple it can be summarized in a single line: Old bachelors from a farming village leave for Uzbekistan in search of brides.

An abundance of episodes and inspiring characters make this movie a rustic, but humane drama.

"Wedding Campaign" received the spotlight early on when it was selected as the closing piece for the 10th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF). PIFF selected this movie because it is a "melodrama that is warm, humorous and with a lingering note", and it is "a sincere ode to the outsiders who bear the burdens of life, but gladly live their lives to the fullest".

After biggest success yet, Busan fest secures future

October 18, 2005 ㅡ BUSAN ― Friday night, this southern port city marked the end of its biggest annual event, the Pusan International Film Festival, with eye-popping fireworks, an orchestra of nearly 100 gayageum (a kind of zither) players and, of course, a film premiere: Hwang Byeong-gook's "Wedding Campaign".
Over the festival's nine days, a record 192,970 guests came from around the world to see the latest international films.
This year's New Currents award, the biggest prize of the festival, went to Zhang Lu's "Grain in Ear", about the tragic life of a Korean-Chinese woman avenging betrayals by old lovers. The president of the award jury, the Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, presented the award to the overjoyed Mr. Lu.
"Mr. Kiarostami is my idol, so it is a very happy occasion for me", Mr. Lu said.

Busan to Host Film and Cultural Festivals in October

Busan, the country's largest port city, will host various kinds of festivals during the month of October this year. These include the 10th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF), a cultural festival celebrating a summit of leaders from 21 countries for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Conference (APEC), and other events.

Here is a list of the various cultural festivals and events visitors can enjoy in Busan, "the city with a beautiful seascape", amid the heavy scent of autumn.

◇The 10th PIFF

The PIFF will mark its 10th anniversary of its founding as a representative international film festival in Asia, with many film buffs invited to this year's festival to experience more substantial content.
