Heo Jin-ho, the director known for films about fading romance, brings something brighter in "Season of Good Rain", coming to theaters in October.

"It's the brightest, most cheerful and happy movie among all the movies I've made so far", said Heo during a promotional event for the film Tuesday in Seoul.

The director is known for bringing together top South Korean actors in heartbreaking melodramas ― Han Seok-kyu and Shim Eun-ha in "Christmas in August" (1998), Lee Young-ae and Yoo Ji-tae in "One Fine Spring Day"; Bae Yong-joon and Son Ye-jin in "April Snow"; and Hwang Jeong-min and Im Soo-jeong in "Happiness".

This time, he pairs up heartthrob Jeong Woo-sung and Chinese actress/model Gao Yuanyuan.

Constantly transforming, from a callous doctor to a feisty conductor, Kim Myeong-min is an actor with many faces, but he was unrecognizably thin in the movie trailer for "Closer to Heaven" (working title), revealed to the press Monday in Seoul.

The 36-year-old star shed 20 kilograms to play a terminally ill man in the film and still carried a considerably thin frame and deeply sunken cheeks ― a striking contrast from past appearances as a tough detective ("Open City") or valiant general (TV soap "Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-shin").

"I had to become more absorbed in the emotions and heighten the drama toward the end of the film. But I couldn't become fully immersed in my role due to exhaustion, and that was the most difficult part", he said.

New Korean Films at PiFan

The 13th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) kicks off July 16 – 26 with an exciting range of new Korean independent genre films, commercial hits and rare classics. Among the 12 films vying for the Puchon Choice competition section's top prizes are Korean low-budget omnibus feature "The Neigbour Zombie", by four Korean directors, OH Young-doo, RYU Hoon, HONG Young-geun, and JANG Yoon-jung and the spring released detective thriller "Private Eye" starring HWANG Jeong-min and written and directed by PARK Dae-min.

Ahn Seong-gi Named Korea's Favorite Actor Again

Ahn Seong-gi was voted Korea's favorite actor in a survey conducted to mark the 35th anniversary of the founding of Gallup Korea.

Some 9.2 percent of Koreans surveyed named the 57-year-old Ahn as their favorite actor. The veteran thespian also topped a 2004 survey with 13.4 percent of the votes. He was the top choice among both men and women respondents, with 10.8 and 7.5 percent respectively, showing more popularity among men than women.

Second place with 6.3 percent went to Song Kang-ho, who played the leading role in "Thirst". Song jumped from sixth place five years ago. Jang Dong-gun and Seol Kyeong-gu came in third and fourth with 5.4 and 5.2 percent. Shin Sung-il earned 3.9 percent of the votes for fifth place, up two notches from five years ago. Jeong Woo-seong, Hwang Jeong-min, Kim Soo-ro and Jeong Joon-ho followed. Kim Hye-soo came in 10th with 1.3 percent, making her the only female in the top 10. There were no actresses in the top 10 in 2004.
