[HanCinema's Film Review] "In Another Country" 2014/01/24, Hong Sang-soo films always have a strong meta-narrative. The characters in his stories think they're living their lives according to some grand design, and so consequently have no idea how childish and foolish their attempts to live these fantasies actually look. Typically this is all just subtext- "In Another Country" takes the curious step of explicitly being a story about a story. Almost the entirity of the film is just in the imagination of Won-joo (played by Jeong Yu-mi), a young woman trying to write a story that's true to life.
Appreciating this film requires some understanding of the fictional writing process. Authors often claim that characters come to them fully formed,...More

Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon [Asia Economic Daily]
Jeon Do-yeon was called the "Queen of Cannes" after she won the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in the film "Secret Sunshine".
Although winning a trophy at Cannes cannot be the absolute criterion for anything, it is worth remembering that so far only two Asian actresses -- Jeon and Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung -- have been named best actress at a world-renowned film event like Cannes.
Even among European and North American actresses, who usually monopolize the competition at film fests, only four have bagged the best lead actress trophy at Cannes -- Vanessa Redgrave, Barbara Hershey, Helen Mirren and Isabelle Huppert,...More
Kim Jeong-eun's Movie Picks 2010/04/21, Source,
Actress Kim Jeong-eun [Chae Ki-won/10Asia]
"Ambition" is not the first word that pops into mind when one hears the name Kim Jeong-eun. Despite the sensational debut she made as a queer patient with a shaved head in MBC TV series "Sunflowers", the image she has established as a star is the actress who is always cheerful and full of life. She was the short-tempered yet loveable, and slightly aggressive yet kind-hearted youngest daughter of the mafia in film "Marrying the Mafia" (2002). And after SBS drama "Lovers in Paris", the audience identified her with her character Tae-young which brought her much glory and fame yet also summed up her ten-year career with an image she said she "wanted to overcome". That is when she came across "Close to You", a film through which she could attain her desire. Kim Jeong-eun became In-young who was no Cinderella and had no reason in her life to laugh out loud,...More
