Korean stars who appear in Chinese food advertising will have to check whether the advertiser's food is safe after a new food safety law came into effect this month. The aim is to prevent further international embarrassment after a string of scandals such as the deadly baby milk scare brought Chinese food products into global disrepute.
Under the new law, Chinese consumers can claim up to 10 times of the retail price for food that failed to meet the standard required by the law. A celebrity or organization endorsing such products in false or exaggerated advertising will be held responsible along with the manufacturer and the distributor. If any harmful substance is detected in the product and consumers suffered damage, the celebrity who appeared in the advertisement will have to compensate the victims. According to the KOTRA Business Center in Shanghai, Jang Nara, "Rain" and Super Junior currently appear in advertising for food products in China, and Song Hye-kyo, Kim Hee-seon an...| More
Producer Barrie Osbourne's long awaited Kung Fu/Western "The Warrior's Way" has just had its release date set. The film starring Korea's JANG Dong-gun wrapped up filming in New Zealand late 2007. JANG appears alongside Geoffrey Rush and Kate Bosworth playing an ex laundry washer worker who is forced to hide in the trouble plagued badlands with baby in tow.
Both the journey portrayed on screen and the production process represents a postmodern, multicultural epic. Barrie Osbourne, originally a U.S. producer used U.S. funding but the film was shot entirely in New Zealand on the out skirts of its largest City Auckland. Osbourne also produced the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001,02,03) which was also shot entirely in NZ. Geoffrey Rush, who plays the town's local drunk is Australian and JANG Dong-gun the lead actor is South Korean. "The Warrior's Way" also features fight choreography from Japanese action/motion director Yuji Shimomura. Korea's JANG Dong-gun also represents a numbe...| More

By Cathy Rose A. GarciaStaff Reporter After blockbuster vampire movies like "Twilight" and "Thirst", here comes another movie about those bloodsuckers. This time, hallyu star Jeon Ji-hyeon, also known as Gianna Jun, plays a half-vampire, half-human demon hunter in her first English-speaking role in the film "Blood: The Last Vampire". Based on a popular Japanese anime film, series and manga, "Blood" follows Saya (played by Jeon) as she tracks down and brutally kills those nasty demons in human disguise throughout Tokyo in 1970. Saya does the dirty work for a group of mysterious men in black suits, but she is on a personal mission to hunt down the "oldest and vilest of all demons" Onigen, who she blames for the death of her father. The youthful but age-less Saya goes undercover at high school at a U.S. military base in Japan, even though one of the characters pointed out "she's older than all of us combined". She soon rescues Alice, an American student, from two mean girls who...| More
Top Korean actress and model JEON Ji-hyeon, going by her international name Giana Jun, is currently travelling Asia on a press tour for her upcoming worldwide debut, "Blood: The Last Vampire". Released in Japan last week, where much of the film was shot, the manga-comic based thriller will be released in Korea and across most of Asia this June, with a US release slated for July. JEON plays Saya, a 400-year-old vampire in a 16-year-old body, who, in the guise of student at a US army base in Tokyo, must hunt down demons and discover their leader. It is both the actress' first action role and English-speaking part, two facts she admits she found very challenging, particularly the latter one. The film, directed by Chris Nahon (Empire of Wolves, Kiss of the Dragon), is a Japan-France-Hong Kong co-production. JEON has expressed the wish to work in Hollywood when the right script comes along. Her next project will be a South Korean production. Nigel D'Sa (KOFIC) ...| More
