The Suyeong Bay area in Busan was packed on the evening of October 8, when the opening ceremony of the 14th Pusan International Film Festival was held. All 5,000 seats of the venue were filled. The less fortunate ones among the movie fans had to stay outside.
Red Carpet Gowns Gowns with low-cut backs were the leading trend at this year's red carpet ceremony. Despite the chilly fall weather, many actresses appeared in surprisingly low-cut gowns. Han Hye-jin's gray dress with a low-cut back evoked loud cheers from the fans. Han Ye-seul's white gown made many fans shout out, "You look so beautiful". Kim So-yeon showed up in red, while Han Eun-jeong chose white. Jeon Do-yeon, who made a public appearance for the first time since giving birth to her baby, was wearing an airy gown with a slightly see-through front. Jeon Hye-bin, Choi Kang-hee, Chae Min-seo, Choi Jeong-won, Lee Ha-na and Jeong Ryeo-won also appeared in bold gowns. Kang Soo-yeon and Jang Mi-hee, who are alrea...| More
Director Jo min-ho has appeared at the press release for the film, "A Million" which is going to challenge the charts against other summer films such as "Chaw" "Take Off" and "Haeundae". The movie stars Park Hae-il, Park Hee-soon, Sin Min-ah, Lee Cheon-hee, Lee Min-ki, and Jeong Yu-mi who have been in the deserts fighting the nature on the set. It is about a survival game whom these people have taken on in Australia for a million Won. Each character has to fight against death to survive. The characters are a Pizza deliverer, ex-marine, Law student, Bar hostess, financial manager, and more but have left their homes...| More
By Lee Hyo-wonStaff Reporter In "A Million", Jo Min-ho offers something brilliantly noir and dramatically stimulating that goes beyond the often scathing or superficial moral laundering that an action-packed thriller tries to rub into the narrative. How far would one go to win $1 million? In an attempt to answer the question, the movie invites viewers to join its star cast through the lush wilderness of Perth, Australia, an inland island encircled by sea, desert, jungle and river. The director of "Les Formidables" offers a story about a reality TV show gone awry ― or rather, just as planned in all its hardboiled horror. As expected, it begins with some caricatured characters falling victim to money lust and displaying savage instincts for survival. Compared to its computer graphics-ridden competitors in the summer box office, the mid-budget film relies less on the art of spectacle. "A Million" is not without its anticlimactic moments and could have spun stronger, m...| More

The homicidal hog movie "Chaw" is one of those films that takes a seed of truth and grows it into Jack's beanstalk. This tall tale of horror and adventure proves to be a fine addition to the local stock of computer graphics-ridden monster flicks ― offering a believable, rather than realistic, experience that persuades the viewer with more than just flesh-gnawing gore.Dubbed the Korean Tim Burton for the punk horror flick "To Catch a Virgin Ghost" ("Sisily 2km"), Sin Jeong-won transforms familiar settings into an atmospheric space, where the narrative is propelled by suspense, dramatic counterpoints and solid character development (including some spoofs by a most memorable madwoman). In recent years, there have been news reports of how deforesting and dwindling food sources drove ravenous wild boars to ravage dead bodies in tombs and attack villages. It took three years to design and realize via CG ― provided by the creative team behind "Star Wars Episode I: The Phant...| More
Known for its innovative and daring use of genre combinations, Korean cinema breaks new ground yet again with "Chaw", a black comedy thriller about a killer pig wreaking havoc on a small mountain town. Directed by SIN Jeong-won ("Sisily 2km"), the film stars popular actors EOM Tae-woong, JEONG Yu-mi and YOON Je-moon. While the posters may lead one to think "Chaw" is a chilling horror and gore flick, the film blends and subverts the monster genre into a witty, suspenseful black comedy. The story is set in the peaceful mountain town of Sameri where plans are underway to develop the area. Soon mutilated bodies are found at the development site, and panic spreads across the community, as it is discovered that a huge wild boar is on the rampage. Comparison to Korea's all time box office champ "The Host", are inevitable, and box office expectations are high. "Chaw" was shot in Seoul and San Francisco, and has been picked up by Hollywood's Variety Fine Cut for release in the Un...| More
