Combination of movie & TV drama continues to evolve. Exchange between Chungmuro, Korean equivalent to Hollywood, and Yeo-ui-do, hub of broadcasting networks, was born as filmmakers produced TV dramas and drama PDs made movies. The exchange has brought the boom of 'Cross Over' such as 'TV Movie' and 'Theatrical Version'. Recently, there is an increasing number of works whose two versions as TV drama and movie were simultaneously made even in the stage of planning. The film and broadcasting industries expect this kind of 'format convergence' to be a chance to increase efficiency and quality in each genre and call for thorough preparedness based on understanding of features that each medium has.

YANG Ik-joon casts JI Jin-hee

YANG IK-joon shot up the ranks of the international cinema world with his debut feature film Breathless. His second film is titled "Runaway from Home", and JI Jin-hee has been cast in the lead role. YANG will also act besides directing.

JI will team up with LEE Moon-sik. LEE will play a husband whose wife has run away. JI's character is the wife's brother. Together they set out to find her. The drama with touches of comedy should be gold in the hands of director YANG who handled "Breathless" perfectly.

"Breathless" – written, directed, produced, and acted by YANG – won a string of awards in Asia and Europe including the tiger award at 2009 International Film Festival Rotterdam. JI turned into a pan-Asian star through the hit television series "Jewel in the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum"). He starred in LIM Sang-soo's "The Old Garden".

Song Hye-kyo Favorite Star in Hong Kong

A recent poll shows that actress Song Hye-kyo is the favorite Korean celebrity among Hong Kong people. The poll was conducted by the Hong Kong office of the Korea National Tourism Organization on June 11-14 on 1,145 people who attended the 2009 Hong Kong International Tourism Exhibition.

The results showed that Song Hye-kyo received 40.4 percent of the votes. She was trailed by Lee Young-ae at 40.2 percent. Lee took the number one spot in the same poll last year. Other Korean celebrities who were picked by the respondents included Jeon Ji-hyeon (31.2 percent), Bae Yong-joon (16.2 percent), singer Rain (14.4 percent) and Ji Jin-hee (12.9 percent).

With regard to the most popular tourist spots in Korea, 68.2 percent of respondents chose Seoul. More than 42 percent cited Jeju and 24.7 percent picked Gangwon Province.
