'Acting tutors' for actors who have professional roles

'Professional dramas' that show the world of professionals, such as reporters, entertainers, doctors, athletes, and music, are becoming a popular genre.

Last year's "Surgeon Bong Dal-hee" and "White Tower" and this year's "New Heart" and "On Air" are drawing popularity. "Spotlight" and "Beethoven Virus", which will show the daily life of a classical musician, is in production or awaiting broadcast.

Professional dramas easily attain high ratings even without great artistic elements, for it shows a world that viewers don't experience.

Actor Ji Jin-hee, who recently stared in the action film 'Soo' (directed by Choi Yang-il and produced by Triz Club), will visit Japan in the coming days.

'Soo' is Korean-Japanese director Choi Yang-il's first Korean film. He was noted for 'Blood and Bones', which won numerous awards in Japan.

The film features star actors such as Ji Jin-hee, Kang Seong-yeon and Moon Seong-geun. The film is currently being screened at the 'Hallyu Cinema Festival 2008 Spring' in Tokyo, to be held until the end of May.

Ji will attend the 'Ji Jin-hee Special Talk Event 2008' in Tokyo on April 5 to promote the film, and greet Japanese audiences on April 6 during the special screening of the film....

Since Korea's hit drama "Jewel in the palace" ("Dae Jang Geum" in Korean) was a big hit on Iranian television, the fever of the drama is still strong in viewers.

Four months after Iran's state TV Channel 2 finished airing the drama, the main actors -- Lee Young-ae and Ji Jin-hee -- have become some of the favorite celebrities that Iranian viewers wish to meet.

"Jewel in the Palace", which became an Asian-wide mega-hit, is based on the life of a 16th century royal cook in the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) named Janggeum, who became the first and only woman physician to serve a Korean king.

Janggeum's story of overcoming hardships and achieving her goal despite many obstacles, the beautiful court costumes and court cuisines captured many Iranians who have high interest in Asia and share similar emotions with Koreans, Korea's Yonhapnews reported Monday (March 17).

Ji Jin-hee is making his comeback to TV screen with MBC drama "Spotlight" (Directed by Kim Do-hoon/ Script by Lee Ki-won) which will be televise on end of April. He had a long gap after his last drama, SBS "Spring Days" which he appeared with Jo In-seong.

"Spotlight" is based on the world of news reporters and their passion to make truthful reports of the society. Ji Jin-hee is acting a single-minded chief reporter, "Oh Tae-seok" who has strong professionalism and refuses make compromises to injustice of the society.

Six stars of the Korean Wave including Jeon Ji-hyeon, a heroine in the hit movie "My Sassy Girl", and actor Jeong Woo-seong, who appeared in the movie "The Restless", were paid compensation from a movie magazine that used their photographs without permission.

In March, seven top Korean stars including actor Jo In-seong and their agency filed a suit against Screen M&B, publisher of the monthly movie magazine Screen, demanding W50 million (US$1=W914) for each star for using the stars' photos commercially without permission.

Seoul Central District Court ruled on Wednesday that the publisher must pay from W5 million to W15 million to each star for infringing their publicity rights.

The court ordered the publisher to pay W15 million to Jeon Ji-hyeon, Jeong Woo-seong, Jo In-seong and Ji Jin-hee, W10 million to Cha Tae-hyeon and W5 million to Yang Jin-woo. The figures were based on the stars' average earnings from advertisements.
