 TALK OF THE TOWNFashion model and actor Joo Ji-hoon is waiting to find out if he will be called up to complete his mandatory military service. Joo was planning to join the army at the end of the year but his plans may be pushed back due to the increase in the number of young men being conscripted this year. On a phone call with local media company Newsen, a source familiar with the actor said that Joo may have to wait until early next year. Meanwhile, Joo's home page will close on Dec. 1 and membership fees will be refunded, a note on the site said. Joo got into trouble earlier this year when he was indicted on charges of illegal drug use in April. Staff Reporter Singer and TV personality Kim Ji-hoon-II was arrested Wednesday for having allegedly taken several pills of ecstasy and smoked marijuana, according to the Seoul Eastern District Court. This is the second time he has been arrested on drug charges and Kim has reportedly admitted to all suspicions. According to Gwangjin Police Station, Kim swallowed several pills of ecstasy, prohibited in Korea, in January at a club in southern Seoul. A former fashion model, whose name was not disclosed, is also suspected to have taken drugs with him, the police said. Kim was first arrested on the same charges in 2005 but did not receive a jail sentence. The most recent charges have put the career of the former lead singer of pop groups "Two Two" and "Duke" at risk. He has recently appeared in a series of TV programs portraying himself as a "bad boy husband" character. The Seoul Central District Court sentenced the 27-year-old Tuesday to a six-month prison term suspended for one year, 120 hours of community service and 360,000 won in fines. Joo was indicted without physical detention last month for taking ecstasy tablets and ketamine at model-turned-actor Ye Hak-yeong's home in Seoul in April last year. "The drug use of a celebrity like Joo can exert an evil influence on society, because people, especially juveniles, can follow his behavior, and ecstasy and ketamine are relatively cheap and easy to obtain compared with other narcotics", the court said. Three other entertainers prosecuted along with Joo on the same charges also face a possible prison term ranging from five years to seven years. Joo, 27, was indicted without physical detention in late April on charges of taking ecstasy in March 2008 during parties with fellow entertainers. Joo was present at the Seoul Central District Court at 2 p.m. along with his lawyer and security guards to participate in the first court hearing. He pled guilty to all charges against him. | "The Naked Kitchen" is confused about what it wants to be. From the cover of the DVD, it looks like a cheesy culinary romantic comedy, complete with simpering stars. But from its synopsis, it sounds like a racy love triangle with a wanton wife at the center. The identity crisis continues through the duration of the film, most apparently in its female star, Sin Min-ah, as Mo-rae, the aforementioned unfaithful spouse. Upon receiving a copy of the DVD, a co-worker passing my desk said, "Oh, Sin Min-ah, she's so cute". Therein lies the problem. Sin is utterly unconvincing in her role as a cheater. Are we honestly supposed to believe that the prancing, parasol-peddling Mo-rae would actually cuckold her husband, Sang-in? And rather than making the situation more believable, the film's ensuing character development - that Mo-rae was a virgin before marriage and that Sang-in is her enduring childhood love - makes her actions even more preposterous.
