Japanese College Holds Film Festival Dedicated to Kim Hye-soo

The Korea Research Center of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University of Japan will hold the 4th Korean Film Festival on October 23-25. This year, the festival is dedicated to Korean actress Kim Hye-soo, who is considered a symbol of independent women.

The festival is aimed at shedding light on Korean cinematography, history and culture through movies that star a certain actor or actress. Launched in 2006, the festival has so far screened movies starring Moon So-ri, Choi Min-sik and Ahn Swong-gi.

This year, six films starring Kim Hye-soo will be screened. They are "Kick The Moon", "YMCA Baseball Team", "Hypnotized", "A Good Day To Have An Affair", "The War Of Flower" and "Modern Boy". The festival will also feature a symposium of Korean and Japanese film experts.

Kim Hye-soo will meet with the audience to talk about her life and acting career.

Son Ye-jin Picked for Asiana Short Film Fest Jury

Actress Son Ye-jin has been picked as a jury member for the seventh Asiana International Short Film Festival, organizers told reporters Tuesday. She follows Kim Hye-soo, who was on the jury last year.

Koo Hye-seon was at the press meet not as an actress but as director of "The Cheerful Caretaker", the official trailer for the festival.

The AISFF will be held for six days from Nov. 5 at Cine Cube in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.

Ryoo Si-won Receives Appreciation Plaque

Korean Wave star Ryoo Si-won met with some 2000 fans from Japan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Taiwan and the U.S. on September 27 in the city of Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.

Until recently, the actor typically held his meetings around the time of his birthday in Seoul, but this year he decided to hold a fan meeting in Gyeongju with the help of the North Gyeongsang provincial government, which has launched a campaign to attract foreign tourists to the region.

In a news conference that Ryoo held prior to the fan meeting at the Hyundai Hotel in the Gyeongju Bomun Tourism Zone, the actor said his goal was to get married before he turned 40. The actor added that he was ready to go down the aisle as soon as he met his significant other. "I have few opportunities to meet with women because I have to work hard in Japan, and only meet with my male friends in Korea when I have free time", said Ryoo.
