Hyeon Bin, Tang Wei-wei Cast in Korea-US Project

South Korean actor Hyeon Bin and Chinese screen beauty Tang Wei-wei are set to appear in "Manchu" (working title), which will go into production at the end of the month in the United States, Boram Entertainment and M&FC announced Friday.

The "My Name is Kim Sam-soon" star will play the role of a man on the run who falls in love with a woman who is on special leave from prison, to be played by Tang, who is best-known as the heroine of Ang Lee's epic romance "Lust, Caution".

The Korea-U.S. joint project ― Korea's Boram Entertainment and M&FC and the Unites States' North by Northwest ― is a remake of the 1966 masterpiece "Full Autumn" (Manchu) by Lee Man-hee. Kim Tae-yong, the award-winning director of "Family Ties" ("The Birth of a Family") will helm the project.

HONG Sang-soo casts MOON So-ri

2002 Venice Film Festival's Best actress winner MOON So-ri will challenge herself this time with a leading role in director HONG Sang-soo's next project. Details about HONG's film are sparse. The celebrated indie director is known for improvisation, writing and rewriting while filming.
 
KIM Sang-kyeong has been cast in the male leading role. It will be KIM's third film with HONG after "On the Occasion of Remembering the Turning Gate" in 2002, and "Tale of Cinema" in 2005. KIM also worked with directors like BONG Joon-ho ("Memories of Murder") and KIM Ji-hoon ("May 18").
 
HONG's latest feature film "Like You Know it All" was invited by Festival de Cannes. HONG's films are conveted by film festivals around the world. He garnered acclaim from his first films "The Day a Pig Fell into a Well" and "The Power of Kangwon Province" on.

'If You Were Me 4', Omnibus Treat

For its sixth omnibus feature film "If You Were Me 4", the National Human Rights Commission of Korea has brought together five directors to capture the magic and complexities of being a teenager. The closing film for the 2008 Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) makes a promising theatrical release June 4 despite tough competition with big Hollywood flicks.

Along with JIFF's popular digital franchise, the human rights project continues to positively contribute to the omnibus genre. In past years, directors such as Park Chan-wook participated ("If You Were Me", 2003), and this time Bang Eun-jin, Jeon Gye-soo, Lee Hyeon-seung, Yoon Seong-ho and Kim Tae-yong each offer a small gem of a piece.

Stars Shoot to Promote Green Film Festiva

Film stars and a musician have joined efforts to make a short video themed on a "green" lifestyle.

According to the Seoul Green Film Festival organizer on April 20, "Family Ties" ("The Birth of a Family") director Kim Tae-yong directed the video to be used to promote the 6th festival.

Singer Lee Sang-eun and actresses Park Jin-hee and Moon So-ri appeared in three episodes of the video -- each about power saving, cycling, and handkerchief use. Notably in Moon's episode, her husband, director Jang Joon-hwan, made a cameo appearance.

Liberal take on artist SHIN Yoon-bok arrives in cinemas

Director JEON Yoon-soo returns with Mi-indo (English translation: "Portrait of a Beauty"), the cinematic adaptation of the popular novel Baramui Hwawon (English translation: painter of the wind) by LEE Jeong-myeong. The book portrays monumental painter SHIN Yoon-bok as a woman disguised as a man.

KIM Min-seon portrays the famous artist as a woman and women were not permitted to be artist in the late Joseon dynasty. Therefore, the talented young woman disguises herself as a man. KIM Yeong-ho plays legendary artist KIM Hong-do who mentored SHIN. In the fictional tale, KIM Hong-do and SHIN Yoon-bok had besides a mentor-student relation, also a romantic involvement.

The popular novel sparked renewed interest on a broad scale in SHIN whose life is little known. The television drama adaptation "Painter of the Wind" starring MOON Geun-yeong has a large following, and the exhibitions of SHIN's paintings draw huge crowds.
