Grand Bell Film Fest Puzzles Movie Fans

Movie fans may have highly anticipated the 46th Grand Bell (Daejong) Film Festival, which took place Friday in southern Seoul, but the outcome of the event was unexpected.

The festival's award ceremony had many shaking their heads, as some of the most successful films took home fewer trophies than expected, while the lack of participating stars left the event feel a bit empty.

This year's Best Picture award went to "The Divine Weapon", pushing aside hit blockbusters "Haeundae" and "Mother - 2009".

"Mother - 2009", which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, managed only to win the Best Supporting Actor award, while "Haeundae", which was nominated in nine categories and was one of the biggest films of the year, won only Best Producer.

As the last bits of summer linger, "Ae-ja" by newcomer director Jeong Gi-hoon heads the pack of mellow autumn season melodramas. It's a coming-of-age story about a troublemaker learning life lessons when her mother falls victim to cancer, but the character-propelled film downplays the predictability as a pair of talented leading ladies give hotwire the heart of the script and offer some genuinely affecting moments.

Choi Kang-hee ("My Scary Girl") brings to the screen another atypical heroine, the tomboy Ae-ja. Her outmoded name, which undoubtedly invited much teasing at school when she was young, sums up the small battles she must fight in everyday life. The movie begins with the baby-faced actress posing most naturally as a rebellious high school student.

Actress Choi Kang-hee is back with her mysterious Bohemian look!

She has been in the photoshoot with concept of "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the st.a casual brand's s ummer collection.
