Theater Series Much Closer to Audience

In a recent television show, renowned actor Jo Jae-hyeon stressed the necessity of star-studded theater marketing in a recent to make audience turn to plays from musicals.

As if his dreams of boosting local dramas came true, a growing number of people are rushing to theaters in Daehangno, central Seoul.

This is because of "Yeongeuk Yeoljeon 2" (A Series of the Best Plays) now showing in the district. The plays started on Dec. 7 and will continue until Jan. 4 next year.

The best-play series project comes four years after the 2004 "Yeongeuk Yeoljeon 1" put 15 best picks selected from the works performed between 1980 and 2000 on stage.

The first one drew about 170,000 people over the year, contributing to boosting the theatrical drama industry in the district.

There are many stars who have various talents, and there are many black-belt holders in the entertainment industry.

Kim Ok-bin is a second degree.

Also, Eric Moon and Son Seong-hee, Dong Bang Shin Ki's Xiah Junsu and Yunho, Hyeon Bin and Ko Soo, even Seo Tai-ji are second degrees.

Won Bin is also a third degree.

New play to be staged starring actor Ko Soo

In 2004, a group of the nation's central theater figures pooled their strength and put on 15 carefully prepared works on the stage, one after another, in the span of one year. The response was amazing for a genre that has never been very popular, drawing some 170,000 people and an average 81 percent seat-occupancy rate.

Those people have been at work again since late last year, this time to offer 11 top contemporary picks and to solicit help from well-known television and movie actors and actresses, in hopes that their appearance will further vitalize the drama genre.

The latest project from "Yeongeukyeoljeon 2", as the special production company is called, is "The Return of Mr. Um", a sequel to "At the Marina", which was presented in 2005 and won the Grand Arts Award from Arts Council Korea the same year.

Ko Soo discharged from army

Actor Ko Soo was discharged from military on the 25th.

He has been serving in KangNam, and even received recognition for being an outstanding public interest service personnel.

That day, Ko Soo will be restarting his acting career through the play "Return of Mr. Eom".

Top Movie Star Jo In-seong Dropped From University

Top actor Jo In-seong has been expelled from Dongguk University as he failed to meet the school's attendance requirements.

The university said that the 26-year-old actor was asked not to return to the Department of Theater, which has strict regulations controlling student behavior, as he skipped many classes last semester.

Jo originally went to Chunnam Techno College in South Jolla Province and later entered Dongguk University in 2003 to further his study of performing arts.

However, after moving to the university, Jo didn't have much time to attend classes from 2005 as he started acting in the film, "A Dirty Carnival", which was released last year.

Sidus HQ, Jo's management agency, said that he tried to balance both his acting career and studies, but failed to do so because of his tight schedule.

The agency said that he is considering resuming his studies through seeking reentrance, while continuing his work.
