Sad movie, but pretty faces

It's always a pleasure watching pretty faces on screen. I suppose that audiences at the very least found "Sad Movie" satisfactory in that regard: The film stars six Korean superstars.
They are Jeong Woo-seong, who has a distinct aura as a male actor; Lee Ki-woo, an emerging movie star who is famous for his sensitive characters in films like Hong Sang-soo's "Tale of Cinema"; Im Soo-jeong and Sin Min-ah, who each brim with girlishness, and Yeom Jeong-ah and Son Tae-yeong, two icons of classic beauty.
Not only do they appear on screen but they also cry a lot, to make the most of what might be a classic melodrama of love and sadness.
Labeled the Korean version of "Love Actually", "Sad Movie" portrays various stories of love.
It presents different kinds of love ― sad couples yearning for love but torn apart by poverty or others who are deeply in love, but are too shy to speak out.

Star-studded 'Sad Movie' not so sad

When a reporter bluntly said "Sad Movie" was "not sad enough", many eyebrows were raised at the news conference following a press preview Tuesday. Director Kwon Jong-gwan and top actors seemed embarrassed. Sadly enough, however, it's a hard-to-counter argument: the omnibus-style melodrama is not so sad.

But it's too early to entirely discount "Sad Movie", a second film of director Kwon who garnered positive reviews with his debut feature "S Diary". After all, the film has pulled off a feat of putting together seven of the country's top-rated actors. This is remarkable, not least considering that the continuing boom of the Korean movie industry has made it hard for directors to recruit even one or two heavyweight actors for their projects.

Just think about a movie in which Jeong Woo-seong, one of Korea's heartthrobs with a winning smile, Cha Tae-hyeon, the very guy who sparked the Korea Wave with "My Sassy Girl", and rising female stars like Im Soo-jeong and Sin Min-ah are working...| More
