It looks like we get a lot of diversity in the upcoming months,...More
[HanCinema's Box Office Review] 2013.11.08 ~ 2013.11.10 2013/11/11,
"Thor: The Dark World" has lit up the top of the Korean box office once again, claiming 655,484 (37%) over 711 screens to advance its total tally now to just over 2 million admissions. Marvel Comic's epic sequel has already grossed $327 million, almost doubling its production budget of $170 million as comic fans, kids, and cinephiles continue to pour in to the theatres to watch Mr. Odinson save the Earth day once again. The highest local flick came in the form of Park Hong-soo's "Commitment", an action drama that tackles Korea's fractured national identity and has Choi Seung-hyeon's character torn between higher powers and those he holds dear. "Commitment" is the Park's debut feature and in it he enlisted the help of director/screenwriting Kim Soo-yeong ("Color of Woman", "Vampire Cop Ricky"). Last week no less than six Korean features found themselves in the top tier, however November's second weekend was less forgiving and forcefully ejected "Days of Wrath", "Hwayi : A Monster Boy", and "Top Star" from proceedings,...More
[HanCinema's Film Review] "No-Breath" 2013/11/01,
The promotional material for this movie proudly states that "NO-BREATH" is the first Korean film to be made entirely about serious competitive swimming. Actually, I'm not sure any country has made a movie about competitive swimming before, or at least not one I can remember offhand. It seems strange considering the elements are there. Just make it a sports movie like any other sports movie, and add copious camerawork of dashing handsome young men with their sexy chests in full focus.
In terms of those particular goals, "No Breath" accomplishes what it set out to do. The very attractive, largely male cast are able to pump out a passable coming-of-age story as two rivals duke it out to become Korea's greatest swimmer,...More

[Spoiler] [Raine's Recaps] Fashion King: Episode 2 2012/06/25, Source,
This episode takes the crazy amalgamation of loan sharks, replica fashion, impoverished heroines, chaebol second leads, evil mothers and one ups it. It was sort of all over the place. We have too many different elements floating around that I'm not sure where they came from. But I do know one thing - EVERYTHING is connected. How they will manage to do it in a believable fashion, I do not know. Or maybe they won't.
That said, it was entertaining. Yoo Ah-in was hysterical/heart-breaking. Kwon Yoo-ri finally made her appearance, albeit briefly. She was pretty good actually! *thumbs up* Ga-young's character got WAY more interesting and I'm falling in love with actor Lee Je-hoon. Waiter, bring me one of those,...More

Artists from SM Entertainment were nowhere to be seen at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). The same thing could be said of YG Entertainment at this year's Golden Disc Awards Ceremony that came after. But at the MelOn Music Awards held at the Peace Hall of Kyung Hee University on December 15, all three major agencies -- SM, YG and JYP Entertainment (JYPE) -- gathered together, proving the influence the nation's largest online music contents site has over even the 3 largest houses in the music industry.
Unfortunately, the quality of the actual ceremony which went on for three hours and was hosted by actor Song Joong-ki, hardly matched up to the fame of guests who gathered that day,...More

[INTERVIEW] Girls' Generation - Part 1 2010/11/03, Source, Girls' Generation [SM Entertainment]
Q: You placed first on Oricon's singles chart. How did it feel? Tiffany: We all cried. We were performing on stage when news came that we took third place with our first single "Genie" but we still all cried upon hearing about it. When we took No. 1, I woke up to a text message saying we got first place (laugh) and I cried as soon as I saw it. Q: Before, your seniors went to Japan with the mindset that they are starting their singing careers all over again. But you acted like pop stars from overseas from the very beginning. How have you been treated in Japan? Hyoyeon: I think the Japanese people we have met are just naturally kind and polite rather than us having received any form of special treatment. Tiffany: I think I've rather gone back to the mindset of when we debuted three years ago. And I've become more cautious as well. But I told myself I should have fun even though we're overseas. Jessica: I was tearing up from the moment we held our showcase because I was so excited. I could hear our fans' cheering before going on stage so my heart was overflowing with joy from the fact that the venue was full,...More
[INTERVIEW] Girls' Generation - Part 2 2010/11/03, Source, Girls' Generation [SM Entertainment]
Q: In "Hoot", you each take turns receiving the spotlight. Is there anything that you pay particular attention to when you each sing your parts?Taeyeon: What I was surprised while monitoring ourselves was that each member was putting on facial expressions as well while doing the choreography. And I thought that must look refreshing for the third person. And I wanted us to be able to express ourselves in line with the lyrics. Q: Sunny and Jessica, you each sing in very unique voices in your parts. What had the director asked of you?Jessica: That I sing in a sharp voice. We each went with how we feel based on that. Sunny: When we were recording, the director said there's a part where my voice sets the basic tone for when we sing altogether, so he asked I sing in a really unique voice. As if I was being strangled. (laugh),...More
