[HanCinema's Film Review] "Il Mare" 2013/10/11,
Sung-Hyun (played by Lee Jeong-jae) and Eun-Joo (played by Jeon Ji-hyeon) are both at a crossroads in their lives. They've lost interest and ambition in their dreams, so they come alone to a beachhouse to rest and repose themselves for whatever comes next in their lives. The twist is, they never actually meet. Separated by the winds of time, they become aware of each others' presence only indirectly, continuing to reflect in solitude while receiving brief bursts of hope and optimism from one another.
"Il Mare" is a film that expertly delineates the difference between loneliness and solitude,...More
[HanCinema's Film Review] "Hindsight" 2012/03/03, Lee Hyeon-seung's return to filmmaking took the form of the rather limp and indulgent "Hindsight", a less than enthralling piece that lead actor Song Kang-ho will surely wish to forget along with Hyeon-seung himself. The film failed to create a buzz at the 16th Busan International Film Festival; in fact it was harshly slammed. The local box office figures mirrored that same stiff response as Hyeon-seung's soporific characters wander meaninglessly through the film's dreamy, but jarring inconsistent, visuals,...More

In the 1990s, Lee Hyeon-seung shot to stardom with the visually lush "Blue In You" (1992) and became a household name with another striking film, "Il Mare" (2000), which went on to become the first local flick to be remade in Hollywood (into "The Lake House", a 2006 piece starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock).
"Hindsight" takes the director's art-school pedigree to new heights, by featuring even more breathtaking, color-coded visuals set to signature soundtracks from his previous two films,...More
[INTERVIEW] Actor Song Kang-ho - Part 2 2010/03/04, Source,

Beck: What did you find likeable and entertaining about the script for "Secret Reunion"? Song: Ten years ago, I did the films "Shiri" and "JSA - Joint Security Area" which are both about South Korea, North Korea and men. So, "Secret Reunion" was similar to them in a way, a similar story, but the overall outline of the movie is completely different from the previous films. The film doesn't treat the South-North division as its theme but rather takes an incredibly soft, light and sophisticated approach to it. I thought that was closer to how the audience currently feels about the division and there was something lovely about a North Korean spy and a former South Korean intelligence service agent living together. I don't think I would have done the movie if it dealt seriously about the division at times like now.
Beck:But didn't you choose to do the film because of the character or the role you would get to take on?,...More

6th Mise-en-scene's Genre Film Festival 2007/06/26, Source, Opening June 27th at Yongsan CGV in central Seoul, the 6th edition of the Mise-en-scene's Genre Film Festival (MGFF) will run until July 3rd, screening over 60 short films. This year's slogan is "Beyond the Barrier of Genres", the event will celebrate films that challenge conventional genres.
Though running as briefly as six minutes, short films show that size is not a factor for capturing the limitless power of imagination. Andre Bazin, film critic and founding father of the French New Wave, called short films "the film of the future".
The festival will feature films in various genres by South Korean and Korean-American filmmakers, including short films, documentaries and anime films. The film "Run,...More
