[MOVIE REVIEW] '24 Months' sheds light on conscription

No phones. No MP3 players. No girlfriends. For Korean men, a nightmarish experience is often compared to the compulsory military service. Many say their freedom is suppressed and they are not allowed to meet their loved ones often enough.

Still not sure about how dreadful it is to serve in the Korean military? Just ask Psy, who was conscripted this week -- the second time in his life -- after months of futile court battles over whether he served his duties properly.

Exploring this theme is the movie "The Longest 24 Months" (Gidarida micheo), directed by Ryoo Seung-jin. It delves into the typical angst of Korean youth related to the military service -- the inevitable relationship problems stemming from the "out of sight, out of mind" rule.

Most male students head for the military barracks after finishing their first or second year in college, and many of them go through relationship troubles when they leave their girlfriends behind.

Calvin Klein Jeans ads are known for their ultra-sexy, provocative and oftentimes controversial images.

So, it came as no surprise to many when Calvin Klein Jeans picked sexy fashion icon Lee Hyo-lee as its first ever model for Asia. Her ads for Calvin Klein Jeans will be released this month. Judging from the initial photographs, the ads will show an edgy but more sensual side of Lee.

Lee made a splash in her debut as a Calvin Klein Jeans model at the Calvin Klein Jeans and Underwear Spring 2007 party at the Papertainer Museum in Olympic Park, southern Seoul, on Wednesday evening.

Wearing black jeans that showed off her famous curves and a fitted tank top, Lee performed three new songs from her digital album. She opened with a romantic ballad "Chansori" (Nagging) and followed it with a mid-tempo tune, "Don't Love Her". Korean Fashion Meets Fantasy of Angkor Wat

SIEM REAP, Cambodia _ A top-class Korean designer dazzled Cambodian dignitaries and citizens as well as Korean residents here with a fantasy-filled fashion show staged at a world-famous stone temple Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Andre Kim's fashion show, which took place to highlight the ongoing Angkor-Gyeongju (Kyongju) World Culture Expo in this small Cambodian city, featured top Korean celebrities riding high on the Korean wave, such as actress Kim Hee-seon and actor Kim Rae-won, as models.

Rising stars, including Lee Ki-woo and Jeong Dong-jin, took part in the show on a catwalk set against the background of the colorfully illuminated Angkor Wat, a cultural heritage site dating back to the early 12th century. It is considered one of the seven wonders in the world.

The Expo, co-organized by the Korean and Cambodian governments, started on Nov. 21 and will continue through Jan. 9.

Andre Kim Fashion Show Staged at Angkor Wat

A fashion show by designer Andre Kim opened at the Angkor Wat on Monday as part of the "Angkor-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2006" being held in Cambodia.

Under the title of "Fantasia", the two-day fashion show will be presented under six themes--"Angkor Toward 21st Centrury-Gyeonggju Expo", "Passion, Dream and Romanticism", "The Legend of the Khmer Kingdom", "The Fantasia of the Shilla Kingdom", "Oriental Rhapsodies", and "Everlasting Love of Utopia".

"I have long prepared for a fashion show at the Angkor Wat", Andre Kim said. "I will produce the great epic of the Khmer and Shilla Kingdoms at this 'garden of gods', Angkor Wat".

With actress Kim Hee-seon and actor Kim Rae-won as main models, some 20 actors and actresses will walk on the catwalk, including Jang Ji-woo, Choi Seong-joon, Heo Jeong-min and Lee Ki-woo.

Actors Son Tae-yeong and Lee Ki-woo to Visit Thailand

Actors Son Tae-yeong and Lee Ki-woo will visit Thailand Friday to promote the film "Sad Movie".

During the three-day-and-two-night trip, the two will hold interviews with media companies and give press conferences. On Saturday, they will attend a press preview of the movie and express their gratitude to guests from the stage.

Scheduled to be released on July 27 in the Southeast Asian country, the movie has attracted interest there due to its high profile, all-star cast.

Playing the female partner of actor Cha Tae-hyeon, Sohn realizes the reality of the situation and chooses to leave her lover despite her love for him. Lee appears as the lover of a woman played by actress Shin Min-ah.

The movie topped box office rankings immediately after being released in Korea last October.
