Jeans brands seem to be replacing cosmetics as the most coveted prize among Korea's advertising contracts. Traditionally, becoming the " face " of cosmetics brands was the recognition of bona fide star status. Actresses Lee Young-ae, Shim Eun-ha, Ko So-young and Lee Mi-yeon were the dominant faces in cosmetics advertising for a long time, but a new generation of stars are drawn to pants.
Local jeans brands now advertise using big names like Lee Hyo-lee, Son Dam-bi, Han Hyo-joo, Han Ji-hye, Han Chae-young, Kim Ah-joong, and Han Ye-seul. What they have in common, of course, is the slim figure to carry it off. Jeans ads inevitably highlight the models' legs, which therefore have to be long enough to make up over 50 percent of the body length. The trend also has something to do with changing standards of beauty, a shift of pretty faces to beautiful bodies. Dr. Bae Joon-sung at the JK Plastic Surgery Center said, "These days, women with a glamorous, sexy bodyline are popular. Those wi...| More
For years, top female actresses in Korea took turns playing the historical figures Jang Hi-bin and Hwang Jin-hi in the movies. Now, you can add Empress Myeongseong to the list. Stars including Kang Soo-yeon, Choi Myeong-gil, Chae Si-ra, Lee Mi-yeon and Moon Geun-yeong have recently played the role of the hwanghu, which means empress in Korean. The latest: actress Soo-ae, known throughout the country for her classical beauty. The empress, a forward-thinking advocate of modernity, wields her political influence to further her ideals. But she is often at odds with her orthodox father-in-law, regent Daewon-gun (Cheon Ho-jin), and meets a tragic death in her lover's arms. The movie is loosely based on history, but there ar...| More

At first sight, the quiet and somewhat aloof "Marco", 31, looks very different from his bubbly TV image.Within minutes, however, he begins to let loose, and bursts into his signature boyish staccato laugh. "Marco" in real life turns out to be like "Marco" on television, or at least a slightly toned-down version. Although already enjoying an modeling career and several stints in movies, "Marco" got his biggest break in the entertainment scene this year by acting as a pseudo-married couple with pop star Son Dam-bi on MBC's semi-reality show "Just Married". A third-generation ethnic Korean from Argentina, "Marco" raised eyebrows and left people asking, "Who is that guy?" when he appeared on the hit show featuring four different celebrity couples. His handsome looks and sculptured physique contrasted with an inarticulate Korean accent and uninhibited expression of his feelings, kept people, especially women, glued to the television. "Yes. I think I am not that much differen...| More
