[HanCinema's Film Review] "A Company Man" on the Edge of Freedom... 2013/02/16, Film:"A Company Man"Director/Writer:Lim Sang-yoonStars: So Ji-sub, Lee Mi-yeon, Kwak Do-won, Lee Kyeong-yeong & Dong JunReview Score: 3.5 / 5
"Don't take it personally" are the words Lim Sang-yoon's hero proclaims as he gives his young and enthusiastic partner the bad news of his expulsion from 'the company'. In "A Company Man" debutant writer/director Lim Sang-yoon probes Korea's obsessive desire with white-collar jobs that are perceived to be the measure of success and status. This ideologically charged film demonstrates the creative and cinematic talents of Lim as he questions Korea's current social discourse on modern measures of success, wealth, and personal responsibility.
Writer/director Lim Sang-yoon's first feature may not have set the box office on fire when it was release in the latter half of 2012, but what stands out most here is his creative competency and mastery over the more technical aspect of cinema and narrative. The popular So Ji-sub plays Hyeong-Do, a highly trained and slick assassin who comes to question his role and future within the underground company he has so faithfully served,...More

By Baek Byung-yeul Playing protagonist Ji Hyeong-do, So Ji-sub doesn't actually utter these words, but all his actions and body language amounts to that one sentence that puts in a nutshell the toils and agonies of any salaried worker in Korea Inc. But heartthrob So plays no ordinary salaried worker. As Ji in "A Company Man", he is a hired killer under the cover of a legitimate business. Ji works for New Continental Metal Incorporated as a section chief of the 2nd sales section, but the main business of this company is contract killing. An otherwise unsuspicious beautiful office housed in a gigantic skyscraper is stashed with an assorted array of lethal weapons, with a separate clandestine conference room,...More

Learn Which Residential Areas Are Hot Among The Stars 2011/05/11, Source,
The lives of celebrities never fail to intrigue the regular Joes out there. Much attention is paid to what they do, who they date, and where they live. Being that celebrities tend to seek out homes that are appropriate for their higher salaries in quiet neighborhoods where they can live out their private lives in peace, many coincidentally flock to the same buildings or areas.
For example, two very famous Korean star couples live in the same luxury-style villa in Samsung-dong of Seoul: comedian Lee Hwi-jae and his wife, and Korea's Brangelina, Jang Dong-gun and Ko So-young. Jang and Ko moved into Lee's building last April to live right beneath him. There are rumors that the two couples get together often due to their shared love for baseball,...More

Actress Kim Yoon-jin's Movie Picks 2010/03/05, Source,
Actress Kim Yoon-jin [Chae Ki-won/10Asia]
Kim Yoon-jin spent her childhood in the United States and made her first step into the world of acting on Broadway. Hence, English was the language she acted in and also used for over 20 years to speak her mind. But 10Asia's interview with the actress revealed that her Korean was just as accurate and rich in expression. Whatever the question, she gave clear answers while appropriately adding in adjectives which would embellish her sentences. Her style of speech was just like her acting -- on point yet elaborate. Many people associated Kim with the term 'female soldier' for a long time after she made her film debut playing a North Korean spy in "Shiri". The audience was unfamiliar with this actress who till then had made a few unnoted appearances in Korean dramas, but she left her mark with "Shiri", standing strong with her role opposite top Korean actor Han Suk-kyu who played the South Korean agent she loves. She then took on "Gingko Bed 2: Danjeobiyeonsu" where her piercing eyes reached beyond the camera to the audience. And just when it seemed she would forever trap herself in the image of a female soldier, Kim started expanding on her scope of acting. In "Ardor", she suffered just like her character Mi-heun did until she found hope in her life. And she may have ended up being the stereotypical Asian woman and finicky lawyer with her roles in the "Lost" series and Korean pic "Seven Days" but with her belief that "it is up to the actor to fill in the empty spaces", her characters became individuals with something more than empty hearts.,...More
