"Last Scandal": A New Drama of Strong Spirited Ajumma

Dramas have always been the center of attention among Koreans with their cheerful characters played by young, hip and stylish celebrities. This year, the fever will go on, but this time it will be led by none other than "ajumma".

"Ajumma" is a Korean term that refers to middle-aged women who are married and usually represented as strong, fearless and dependable.

Two television networks have already aired dramas depicting the lives of these women: MBC's "Park Jung-geum, Heavenly Beauty", and SBS's "First Wives' Club".

Now, Korean fans will welcome another drama full of romance, humor and humanity, all conjoined into the life of a normal, but courageous "ajumma".

Choi Jin-sil and Jeong Joon-ho, from "Marrying the Mafia" (2002), have teamed up with director Lee Tae-gon for the new drama, "Last Scandal" (working title) a Cinderella story of a 39-year-old "ajumma".

As the year 2007 ended, the dramas are also changing its path. On 26th, SBS Wed-Thur drama, "Lobbyist" was finished, followed by KBS 2 "In-Soon is Pretty" on 27th. Wang-mo and Ja-gyeong finally got married.

The weekend TV drama "Dear Heaven" ("Love in Heaven" - writer: Im Seong-han; producer: Lee Yeong-hee) features a dramatic storyline that includes a daughter, deserted by her mother as a child, and the mother's stepson getting married.

In the show's March 18 episode, Yeong-sun's (Han Hye-sook) daughter Ja-gyeong (Yoon Jeong-hee) and her stepson Wang-mo (Lee Tae-gon) will marry. The secret that the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law are actually mother and daughter will soon be disclosed, and the show's audience has had a keen interest in how the drama will unfold afterwards.

According to TNS Media Korea, the show's ratings for March 12 were 34.6 percent, the highest since the start of the drama.

New SBS Drama Sparks Morality Controversy Even Before Its First Episode Airs

Is it an immoral show emphasizing an inappropriate relationship, or a human drama with maternal love as its theme?

SBS's new weekend drama "Love in Heaven" (Korean title: "Haneulisiyeo"), set to debut on September 10 as the follow-up to the show "Summer Typhoon", is becoming the subject of fierce controversy with its first episode yet to air.

The problem is the plot's premise: it involves an irregular family relationship, with a woman deliberately marrying her long-abandoned daughter to her own stepson.

Ji Yeong-seon (played by Han Hye-seok) finds her lost daughter Lee Ja-gyeong (Yoon Jeong-hee), whom she had abandoned in her youth. As if guided by the hand of fate, Lee is already going out with Ji's own stepson, Gu Wang-mo (Lee Tae-gon). Ji does everything in her power to marry Lee to Gu, and eventually succeeds.
