The Baek Sang Awards took place on April, 24 at Main Hall Hae in Seoul.

Differing from last year's trend of dresses that showed off long legs, long dresses of faint or bright colors allowed each to have their own taste and charm shine.

Director/writer RYOO Jang-ha makes his comeback after his 2004 "Springtime" (Kkotbineun Bomi Omyeon) featuring CHOI Min-sik, with the romantic drama Soonjeongmanwha (English translation: "pure comic strip") starring YOO Ji-tae and LEE Yeon-hee.

The film's about a thirty-year-old office employee and a female student who run into each other every morning at an elevator. Both are secretly in love with each other.

Filming commenced on the first day of April. The film is scheduled for a release in the fall. The romantic drama is produced by Let's Film.

YOO Ji-tae played CHOI Min-sik's character's nemesis in PARK Chan-wook's "Old Boy". He also starred in the period piece "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" and HONG Sang-soo's "Woman is the Future of Man" (Yojaneun Namjaui Miraeda). In addition, YOO directs short films.

LEE Yeon-hee is seen in LEE Myeong-se's "M" opposite of KANG Dong-won and the romantic teen film "A Millionaire's First Love" (Baekmanjangjaui Cheotsarang). She's one ...

Lee Yeon-hee, Han Ye-seul, Lee Bo-yeong, Jeong Ryeo-won, and Lee Ha-na were nominated for the New Actress Award in a movie for the 44th Baek-sang Awards.

According to the announcement, Lee Bo-yeong of "Once Upon a Time", Lee Yeon-hee of "M", Lee Ha-na of "Le Grand Chef", Jeong Ryeo-won of "2 Faces of My Girlfriend", and Han Ye-seul of "Miss Gold Digger" were nominated.

There is great expectation for who will receive the glory of the award, for they are all beautiful great stars. Also, "The Chaser" has been nominated for six categories at this year's Baek-sang Awards, including best picture, best directing, new director, best screenplay, best actor, and popularity.

Other nominees for the best picture were "Forever the Moment", "Secret Sunshine", "Happiness", and "May 18".

The Baek-sang Awards will be on April 24.

Actors So Ji-sub and Lee Yeon-hee came out as lovers in "U-Turn", a movie produced by Ssang Yong Motors and On Media. Director Jang Jin of "A Day With My Son" will produce the short film, made of three parts of four minutes each.

The story is that So Ji-sub falls for Lee Yeon-hee's awkward yet lovable charm when she enters his life.

"U-Turn" has filmed from last month to mid-March in Seoul and Kyung Gi Do, and it will be aired on cable starting on April 1. It will also be used as a commercial for SsangYong Acty-On....

In the last few years, Korean films, TV dramas and pop music have become immensely popular abroad, a phenomenon known as the Korean Wave. This is the 27th in a series of essays by a select group of scholars and journalists looking at the spread of Korean pop culture in Southeast Asian countries and beyond. - Ed.

Media and policy makers are giddy over what Korean entertainers have achieved in Asia in the past 10 years.

Superficially, at least, there is plenty of optimism floating around here about the future of the Korean Wave, or "Hallyu" - more and more Korean singers and actors are targeting overseas markets from the very beginning, while top Hallyu stars continue to rule Asia.

From a different angle, however, Korean stars' increased sense of presence in Asia also reflects their ongoing struggles to survive the current crisis of the local entertainment market.
