Jeon Do-yeon Cast in 'The Housemaid'

Award-winning actress Jeon Do-yeon will play the lead role in the upcoming remake of Kim Ki-young's classic film "The Housemaid", Miro Vision announced Sunday.

The project marks the comeback of the 36-year-old, who gave birth to her first child after appearing in the low-budget melodrama "My Dear Enemy" last year. She recently received a cultural merit medal from the French government, Chevalier-Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In 2007, she won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for "Secret Sunshine".

Featuring the provocative themes of adultery, murder and misguided desire, the original 1960 movie is hailed as a masterpiece that greatly influenced Korean cinema. A digitally restored version was screened at Cannes last year under the auspices of Martin Scorsese.

"I wanted to stay free of any thoughts when filming 'The Executioner'", said Yoon Kye-sang, who is known for his hard work in Chungmuro. Yoon admits that he is hard on himself because he wanted to receive recognition for his acting skills. He said, "I wanted people to recognize me as an actor".

To Yoon, being known only as a former member of the idol boy band G.O.D. is great pressure. That is also the reason he rarely appeared on variety shows. He wanted to be known as an actor, not as an entertainer.

YANG Ik-joon casts JI Jin-hee

YANG IK-joon shot up the ranks of the international cinema world with his debut feature film Breathless. His second film is titled "Runaway from Home", and JI Jin-hee has been cast in the lead role. YANG will also act besides directing.

JI will team up with LEE Moon-sik. LEE will play a husband whose wife has run away. JI's character is the wife's brother. Together they set out to find her. The drama with touches of comedy should be gold in the hands of director YANG who handled "Breathless" perfectly.

"Breathless" – written, directed, produced, and acted by YANG – won a string of awards in Asia and Europe including the tiger award at 2009 International Film Festival Rotterdam. JI turned into a pan-Asian star through the hit television series "Jewel in the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum"). He starred in LIM Sang-soo's "The Old Garden".

Moon So-ri returns to her salad days

Moon So-ri, an award-winning Korean actress, was a single when she joined the cast for "Sa-kwa", a movie about relationships, marriage and reunion.

While the release date for the film, directed by Kang Yi-kwon, was put back again and again, Moon got married and her perspective about the movie also changed.

Because of the long delay, Moon expressed her special feelings about the film when she joined the press screening of "Sa-kwa" in Seoul on Wednesday.

"It's overwhelming", Moon said. "There are so many good memories and stories about this movie, but I felt a sense of helplessness when the release got delayed".

Moon said the much-awaited movie would bring back the younger image she had in her debut film "Peppermint Candy" (2000). "The image in 'Sa-kwa' is different from how I am today, and I felt as if I was watching myself from the days when I was in 'Peppermint Candy'. I was certainly not sophisticated back then", Moon said.
