Maya Cast in a TV Drama

Powerful rock singer "Maya" is returning to the small screen three years after her last appearance on TV. She has been cast in an unnamed weekend series scheduled to air in July.

The new drama will be directed by Hong Chang-wook, who had worked with her previously in "Magic". "Maya" is said to be playing a character, who is very outgoing and generous, but has a pathological dislike for men. She hasn't received the detailed synopsis yet, but is determined to do her best and looking forward to joining other cast members soon.

Actor Jang Dong-gun, Other Celebrities to Perform in Los Angeles

Celebrities such as top star Jang Dong-gun, film director Kang Je-gyu, and singers Kang Ta, MC Mong, Epik High and Seo Ji-yeong, will publicize South Korean pop culture in the United States.

Popular South Korean celebrities will attend an event entitled "Glimpse of Korea" to be held at Universal Studios in Los Angeles in March. They will include South Korea's leading entertainers and director: Jang, who has made his name known at the Berlin International Film Festival as a hallyu star, actress Kim Yoon-jin, who has made inroads into the American entertainment industry by acting in the American TV drama "Lost", film director Kang Je-gyu, who directed the film "Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War", and top South Korean singers and groups such as Kang Ta, Seo Ji-yeong, "Maya", MC Mong, Epik High and Jewelry.

"Glimpse of Korea" was first held in October of last year. It is an event aimed at introducing the hallyu boom to American audiences.

Hallyu star festival draws crowds of Japanese fans

Japanese fans were thrilled to see big hallyu stars at the 2005 Hallyu All Star Summit, an unprecedented event that was held at the Super Arena of Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Prior to the concert, Nikkan Sports wrote that 15 hallyu singers, music groups and actors would gather in one place for a large-scale hallyu event, while Sankei Sports described the event as "grandiose".

The festival, which marked the 40th anniversary of the normalization of Korea-Japan diplomatic ties, drew multitudes of fans, who came to see their favorite hallyu stars all in one place despite heavy rain. It was organized by the Korea Foundation for Asian Culture Exchange and Japan's Fuji TV, and hosted by Morning Entertainment (CEO Lee Myung-sun).

Japan to hold 2005 Hallyu All Star Summit

The 2005 Hallyu All Star Summit, a large-scale event that will bring together all hallyu stars, will take place Sept. 24 at the Super Arena in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Participants of this truly "hallyu day" will include major hallyu actors and singers, such as Lee Byeong-heon, Jang Dong-gon, Kwon Sang-woo, Kim Seung-woo, "Rain", Jewelry, Shin Hye-sung and "Maya". The singers will stage two concerts that will also feature 15-minute video screenings of each hallyu actor and actress.

The event, which marks the 40th anniversary of the normalization of Korean-Japanese diplomatic ties, was organized by the Korea Foundation for Asian Culture Exchange, Japan's Fuji TV and Morning Entertainment, Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Myung-sun). SBS will air the event in Korea in early October.

Top Korean artists to perform in Vietnam

Top Korean artists and musicians will perform at the KBS Open Concert to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam on Sept. 10 (local time).

Performers will include, among others, Kang Ta, Jewelry, Kim Gun-mo, "Maya", In Sun-yi, Clon, Park Mi-kyung and Lim Tae-kyung.

The event will take place at the Vietnam-Soviet Culture Palace, a popular concert hall in Vietnam. It is likely to contribute greatly to promoting cultural exchanges between Korea and Vietnam as many popular Vietnamese artists will perform on the same stage with their Korean counterparts.
