'May 18', a film which attracted 7.3 million moviegoers last year and was chosen by audience members as the Best Film of 2007, will open in theaters in Japan in May.

The film will be distributed by Japan's leading film production and distribution company Kadokawa Pictures. The PG-12 rated film will open in numerous cinemas around Tokyo, including Shinjuku and Shibuya.

The film features some of Korea's top actors, including Kim Sang-kyeong, Ahn Seong-gi, Lee Yo-won, Lee Joon-ki, Park Cheol-min and Park Won-sang. Prior to its official release in Japan, the film will first be introduced to Japanese movie fans at the 18th annual Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival in Hokkaido, Japan for five days from March 19. ...

In conclusion, the interrelationship is inverse proportion according to the trend in 2007 box-office success in Korean film industry. Among the 100 movies released this year, only 4 movies had more than 3 million audiences, including "D-War" (8 million), "May 18" (7 million), "Voice of Murderer" (3.25 million) and "Le Grand Chef" which recently reached 3 million.

Among many movies that went into the black, following are those which closely reached the break-even point, including "Miracle on 1st Street" (Im Chang-jeong and Ha Ji-won), "Voice of Murderer" (Seol Kyeong-gu and Kim Nam-joo), "May 18" (Kim Sang-kyeong and Lee Yo-won), "D-War" (Jason Behr), "Paradise 1986" (Park Hae-il and Seong Ji-roo), and "Le Grand Chef" (Kim Kang-woo and Lee Ha-na). BUSAN -- Premiere Magazine's 3rd Rising Star Awards recognized the talent of actors Daniel Henney ("My Father") and Kim Ah-joong ("200 Pounds Beauty") at at a Busan hotel, Saturday, at the 12th Pusan (Busan) International Film Festival (PIFF).

The private ceremony was very intimate, with close friends presenting prizes to awardees. Premiere Magazine chooses among works from the past two years, taking into account its artistic merit, popularity, influence and brand power, as well as input from online polls.

"This is a very special award. It's for acting, it's an acting award", said Daniel Henney, who gave a moving performance as a Korean adoptee in "My Father", a breakthrough role that showed he's more than just a pretty face. Director Hwang Kyoo-deok handed him the award.

Park Cheol-min, one of the actors starring in the hit movie "May 18", which tells the story of the Gwangju massacre, has a long relationship with the city where the democracy movement rose up against violent oppression by the Korean military in 1980.
Park is a native of Gwangju, and was in his second year of middle school when he witnessed the uprising. His film debut was in a movie about the events of May 1980 and he has played a small role in another Gwangju film called "Kkotip", which means petal.
Park said he lived in a remote part of Gwangju and he would visit the downtown area on his bicycle.
"It was an interesting scene with tires being burned and people wailing", Park said. He said it was odd because what he witnessed on Gwangju's streets and the Gwangju he saw on TV news were very different.
