Serbian Director Wins at Chungmuro Festival

The 2nd Chungmuro International Film Festival in Seoul (CHIFFS) came to an end Thursday, with the Grand Prize going to the 2007 Serbian film "Trap" by Srdan Golubovic.

At the closing ceremony held in the National Theater of Korea, director Michael Cimino and four other jury members awarded the modern film noir with the newly launched competition section's top honor ($30,000). The Special Jury Prize ($5,000) went to Aida Begic's "Snow", a co-production from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, France and Iran.

"A total of 13 films from different parts of the world competed for the Grand Prize. Each work enabled the viewer to see a unique culture and history of a people, and was very moving. The jury members spent three long hours debating the contending works, and were finally able to narrow it down to two", said Japanese film critic Ken Terawaki on behalf of the jury.

Female Korean pop star BoA will fulfill her American dream by releasing an album in the United States this year.

The 22-year-old singer has been preparing for her U.S. debut while performing in Korea and Japan, according to SM Entertainment, her agency, yesterday.

The entertainment company established a local subsidiary in the United States late last month.

Meanwhile, BoA is holding a press conference with the slogan, "Best of Asia, Bring on America!" at the Imperial Palace Hotel in southern Seoul. The conference will focus on her upcoming U.S. debut.

Comedian Park Crosses Inter-Korean Border

Hit entertainer of "Infinite Challenge", Park Myeong-soo became the first comedian to cross the Military Demarcation Line by an overland route, Wednesday.

"I heard that I am the first entertainer to cross the border through the land route. It is an honor for my family", Park said.

As a part of an OBS program "Park Myeong-soo Meets the CEO", Park visited the joint industrial complex in Gaeseong in North Korea. During a one-day trip to the North, he met with South Korean businessmen and workers in the complex.

"I did not know that Gaeseong is only 12 kilometers away from Dorasan Station. It is so sad that we couldn't go there because of the division of the Korean peninsula", Park told reporters at the station.

He is famous for his "bawling out", but he said that he would not have outbursts at North Koreans to keep the peaceful mood between the South and North.
