We uncovered a side to this actor we hadn't seen before~ These days not a week seems to go by when casting calls don't come pouring in... It's actor Park Yong-woo! His polished talent has managed to monopolize the love of audiences once again -

STAR FOCUS cameras caught up with Park Yong-woo right in time for the filming of his upcoming movie, . Park plays the part of a homicide detective, a character much different from his usual, more romantic and lighter roles. This time, there's a lot more action and a lot more "Mr. Tough Guy."

Park Yong-woo endured rigorous physical training for his part and rapidly dropped the weight to play the younger, lean cop. He also tanned his fair skin, giving himself a more rough image.

A lot of expectation is riding on the star, especially after his success as lead actor in last year's, .
The straightforward frankness and confidence of attracted flocks of the younger generation to theaters. The originality of the plot and well-structured composition helped set the stage for Park's acting finesse. This was his claim to fame, his release from "supporting roles."

Selected as one of the most highly anticipated actors of the year, Park Yong-woo! HIS secret lies in his unfaltering path through acting... Most would agree that his success - is well-deserved.

Costume drama meets violent film noir
Kyu Hyun Kim (qhyunkim)

The film opens in 19th century Korea, the late Joseon period. A small island off the coast of Seoul, known for the production of high-quality paper, it is commissioned by the court, is visited by the special prosecutor Won-kyu (Cha Seung-won) and his men, after a suspected arson burns down a freighter and its shipment of valuable papers.

Soon Won-kyu finds himself embroiled in an island-wide conspiracy and a murder investigation, as those rumored to be responsible for the frame-up and gruesome execution of Commissioner Kang (Cheon Ho-jin) several years ago are killed off in equally horrendous ways: boiled alive in a dyeing kettle, having his skull crushed by a rock, and so on.

Neither the old yangban owner of the paper mill (Oh Hyeon-kyeong) nor his cynical son Kim In-kwon (Park Yong-woo) seems happy to have an outsider like Won-kyu meddle in the affairs of the island.

Meanwhile, the beautiful local shaman (Cho...| More

Oh Seung-min is not a nice man. A manager for a TV starlet, Oh is involved with the mob, ignores his wife, threatens his employees, and just can't seem to chill out.

Then a model blackmails Oh (Eom Tae-woong) with a sex tape of his meal ticket Jin-a (Lee Se-na), and Oh leaves the cell phone with the video on it in a coffee shop. But losing the movie's MacGuffin and title - "Handphone" - has more implications than just the loss of Jin-a's innocent image when a customer service manager at an E-mart named Jung Lee-gyu (Park Yong-woo) finds it and decides to manipulate Oh into taking revenge on the snotty customers who mouth off to Jung every day.

At first, director Kim Han-nim avoids torture horror, the usual genre for this kind of punish-the-sinner plot, instead sticking to fast-paced suspense. It's a good decision, and the film's at its best when it keeps us guessing - why would Oh attack an old man he doesn't know? Whose car is that he's beating on with a baseball bat? It's all p...| More

In a news conference on June 15 after the premiere of the movie "Bronze Medalist", actress Jo An said she tried her best to get rid of her pretty looks. Jo plays a heavyweight lifter in the movie who competes for the gold medal in the Olympics against all odds. She said, "After being on TV for a long time, I've acquired a habit of looking pretty. But I tried to appear the opposite way for the movie".

Jo gained 7 kg for the movie to better portray her role. She said, "When I showed the photos of me looking big, Park Yong-woo said I didn't look ugly enough. So I did my best to look as ugly as possible". "Bronze Medalist" is a movie about heavyweight lifting coach Lee Ji-bong (played by Lee Beom-soo), who was once an Olympic bronze medal winner but had to work as a bar waiter because of an injury, and later took a job as a coach at a junior high school for girls. It is based on a real-life story about students from a rural area who won gold medals at a national competition.

"My Scary Girl"ㆍ"Attack the Gas Station!"ㆍ"Radio Star"

Many musicals based on films have been staged in the past few years, leading to the coining of the new term "movical". The phenomenon is expected to continue this spring as three creative musical productions based on film adaptations will open next month.

"My Scary Girl", based on the same-titled Korean film that starred Choi Kang-hee and Park Yong-woo, opens March 6 at the Chungmu Art Hall.

It's a love story between "Daewoo", a 30 year old college English instructor who has never yet dated a girl, and a mystery girl named "Mina", who murders without blinking an eye. It's a romantic comedy but the uniquely clownish characters and wacky storyline delivers hearty amusement.

Two multi-role actors will play Mina's ex-boyfriend, a ghost and other parts in the musical for a comical twist. The show runs through May 17. Tickets cost W45,000.

The sensational 1999 film "Attack the Gas Station!" will come back as ...| More
