Director/writer RYOO Jang-ha makes his comeback after his 2004 "Springtime" (Kkotbineun Bomi Omyeon) featuring CHOI Min-sik, with the romantic drama Soonjeongmanwha (English translation: "pure comic strip") starring YOO Ji-tae and LEE Yeon-hee.

The film's about a thirty-year-old office employee and a female student who run into each other every morning at an elevator. Both are secretly in love with each other.

Filming commenced on the first day of April. The film is scheduled for a release in the fall. The romantic drama is produced by Let's Film.

YOO Ji-tae played CHOI Min-sik's character's nemesis in PARK Chan-wook's "Old Boy". He also starred in the period piece "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" and HONG Sang-soo's "Woman is the Future of Man" (Yojaneun Namjaui Miraeda). In addition, YOO directs short films.

Outside of Korea, Yoo Ji-tae is primarily known as a key actor in Park Chan-wook's award-winning flick "Old Boy". In the movie, Yoo's character shows off an extremely calm posturing; however, deep inside his heart is burning with an incontrollable emotion of revenge.

Back to the reality, Yoo does not want to limit his scope to the domain of acting. Although he's a much sought-after actor, he is not secretive about his burgeoning ambition as a filmmaker. Previously, he made two short films, which have not made it to the theaters.

This time, finally, Yoo's third short film, titled "Out of My Intention" (Nado moreugae), has achieved something bigger and more commercial. The 24-minute-long film will be screened from March 20 at Sponghouse in Gwanghwamun, Seoul. The screening period is limited to just a week given the film's brief running time and arthouse nature; nonetheless, the release clearly marks Yoo's formal debut as a director.

A total of 7 Korean moviesare being screened right now in the 8th Shanghai International Film Festival, which will be continued by June 19.

In its Asian New Talent Award, first off 'My Brother' directed by Ahn Kwon-tae, unfolds a synopsis in which The younger brother, Jong-hyeon is a good-looking, class-A fighter. The older brother, Seong-hyeon is tender and pure, a class-A student.

They've been fighting nearly for 17 years. Trouble began when their mother favored Seong-hyeon over his younger brother. Round two began when both brothers fell for the same girl, Mi-ryeong.

When the long-simmering emotions finally explode and a huge fight breaks out, Seong-hyeon tells his younger brother something he had never been able to say before: "Jong-hyeon, would you call me hyeong just once? I've never heard it before from you..".

As movie 'When Spring Comes - Springtime' starring Choi Min-sik is invited to the 'Mar Del Plata International Film Festival' to be held in Brazil, next month, Korean Film's excellence is expected to be showed off in South America too.


The 20th Mar Del Plata International Film Festival, which is held on Mar.10-20, is a film festival, whose location is being consolidated as a showcase of South American movies.


Director Ryoo Jang-Ha's movie 'When Spring Comes - Springtime' will be screened in the international competition section of this Film Festival.


'When Spring Comes - Springtime' is unfolded centering around Hyon-woo. In a return to the screen after his brilliant performance in "Old Boy", Choi Min-sik plays a character that requires much more serenity and softness than his usual angst-ridden roles. Hyon-woo is a classically trained trumpet player whose talents haven't taken him where he wanted to go in life.

December 17, 2004 ㅡ Six Korean films with English subtitles will be screened at the USFK Korean Film Festival, starting today at three U.S. base locations: the Multipurpose Training Facility at Yongsan Garrison, Osan Air Force Base Movie Theater and Camp Humphreys Movie Theater.
The opening ceremony takes place at 5:20 p.m. at Yongsan, followed by a screening of "Taegukgi" (2004), directed by Kang Je-gyu. "Taegukgi" was chosen because organizers wanted to show the effect of the Korean War on Koreans and its meaning to them. (Screenings are 5:30 p.m. Friday at Yongsan, and 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Camp Humphreys.)
"Save the Green Planet" ("Jigureul Jikyeora", 2002), was directed by Jeong Jun-hwan, named Best Director of a Foreign Film at the 25th Moscow International Film Festival.
