| A press conference for the upcoming film "Living Death" was held Tuesday at the Artsonje Center, central Seoul. The mystery/horror movie focuses on a girl named Hee-jin, who is trying to search for her missing sister, So-jin. Nam Sang-mi, who appeared in the horror film "Dead Friend" five years ago, plays Hee-jin, while Sim Eun-kyeong plays So-jin. "It's the flow of the story rather than the effects that produce suspense in this movie", Nam said on Tuesday. | By Lee Hyo-won Staff Reporter Don't be discouraged by the rather familiar plotline or the tacky English title. This reporter had been expecting the worst for what appeared to be a spin-off of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", but Sin Tae-ra's buoyant spy romance "My Girlfriend Isn't an Agent" is a promising asset to the South Korean romantic comedy genre. It's predictable and cliched, but features some surprisingly good B-rate laughter, winning the audience with a series of small but tactile tickles rather than a big K.O. After dabbling with blood in the slasher film "Black House", the director returns with something more digestible, while actors Kim Ha-neul and Kang Ji-hwan make their mark on the silver screen. Following a few mediocre franchises, Kim reclaims her reputation as the romantic comedy queen in the tradition of her "Too Beautiful to Lie", while Kang's charms, eclipsed by So Ji-sub's charisma in his feature film debut "The Rough Cut", shines through. Five Korean programs have been nominated for awards at the 48th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
Slated to run from June 8 to 12, the festival -- regarded as the European Emmies -- has been selecting the best of worldwide television programming since 1961, after it was founded by Prince Rainier III of Monaco. This year, Korea is making its mark at this international event, receiving nominations for five out of eight programming categories. Among the five nominations, MBC managed to nab three, with its cable series "BSG Police" (ByeolSunGeom) and drama "Coffee Prince" as strong contenders for the best TV series categories. Four "BSG Police" cast members -- Ryoo Seung-yong, On Joo-wan, Ahn Nae-sang and Park Hyo-joo -- are also up for the best outstanding actor and actress awards.
