Ryoo Si-won Awarded Japan's Medal of Honor

Hallyu star Ryoo Si-won was awarded a Japanese Emperor's Medal of Honor on Tuesday at Niikata Prefecture. Ryoo was honored for making a large contribution to the prefecture, which suffered extensive damages from an earthquake last year. Together with the Medal of Honor with dark blue ribbon, he also received a plaque of appreciation from the head of Niikata Prefecture.

Ryoo said he just wanted to help out the residents of Niikata, where he held a concert in 2006. He added that he's glad to have given even a little bit of hope and comfort to earthquake victims.

The Medal of Honor with dark blue ribbon is given to individuals who have made exceptionally generous financial contributions for the wellbeing of the public. A total of 23 medals were awarded in relation to the Niikata earthquake, but 22 of them were for businesses and organizations and Ryoo is the only individual given the honor.

SS501 Wins a Golden Disk Award in Japan

Idol group SS501 won the best 10 new artist award at the 2008 Japan Golden Disk Awards on Tuesday.

The new artist awards are given to ten artists who debuted in the previous year and ranked top ten in the album sales and revenue category. SS501 was placed under the spotlight when the group released a single album titled "Kokoro" in Japan last August. Their debut album in Japan soared to 5th place in the Oricon daily chart and 10th in the weekly chart. Their popularity continued as they rolled out their second single album "Distance" in September and the regular album "SS501" in October. Both of these albums ranked in the top 20 of the Oricon weekly chart.

Ryoo Si-won Commended by Ministry of Finance

Singer and actor Ryoo Si-won received an award from the Ministry of Finance on the 42nd National Taxpayer's Day. The award was in recognition of the actor as a model tax-paying citizen by the Seongdong district tax office.

On National Taxpayer's Day last year, Ryoo Si-won was appointed as honorable section chief for the day at the Seongdong district tax office, where he received hands-on experience. Ryoo announced that he was happy to have received an award this year and "proud to be a tax-paying citizen".

His management agency, RS Company, stated, "Ryoo Si-won is admired by fans across Asia and he was commended for showing responsibility as a national taxpayer through all his work abroad"....| More

On 21st, the Korean Waves star, Ryoo Si-won was chosen as the 'Ambassador of Cultural Exchange' in the "Korea – Japan Cultural Exchange Festival" which was held in the Olympic Hall, Seoul Olympic Park on 21st.

Ever since 2006, Ryoo Si-won had been chosen as the 'Ambassador of Cultural Exchange'. He had been actively involved himself in various events related to extending the influences of the Korean Waves. For example, he largely committed himself in advertising the "Korean Waves Expos" which was held in Japan in August, last year.
