Newlywed Seo Min-jeong to Retire from Acting

Seo Min-jeong, the 28-year-old actress who first rose to stardom in the sitcom "High Kick!", married 29-year-old Korean-American dentist Ahn Sang-hoon in the Grand Ballroom of Asem Tower in Samseong-dong on Saturday.

Former Prime Minister Lee Soo-sung officiated at the wedding and singers Lee Soo-young, Noel and Son Ho-young sang the nuptial songs.

Singer Lee Soo-young will sing a song from her new album at the wedding of her close friend, actress Seo Min-jeong.

She will sing a song from her yet to be released 8th album--due for release next month--for Seo, who is tying the knot Saturday with Mr. An Sang-hoon at the COEX Asem Tower in southern Seoul.

The song chosen for the special day is 'Lavender', whose lyrics Lee personally wrote. The melodious song conveys love and future happiness that "gently approaches like a lavender scent".

Lee said, laughing, "Due to the weddings of my close friends including Park Kyeong-rim and Seo Min-jeong, I became a working wedding singer".

What Hallyu Stars are asking for in Hallyu

The 'FACE in Japan Premium Event' was held at the Tokyo Dome on the 14th and 15th where we asked participating actors and singers about the way Hallyu should be heading.

Na Moon Hee: I am happy that the Hallyu Expo was able to be hosted on Korea's Independence Day at the Tokyo Dome. The sitcom 'High Kick!' staff all came despite their busy schedules. There are many events of this type recently but I feel they should be prepared more thoroughly. It is the same with drama series. Quality content brings about the power.

Lee Min-Woo (M): There must be no pretense. To reach out to the hearts of Japanese fans, you have to present a sincere self on stage. Music has the advantage of crossing language barriers compared to movies and dramas. Hallyu is being led by the mid to older generations, but singers have a relatively young fan base. I would think creating good music and performing often can be the core of leading the young Hallyu.

Director keeps sitcoms all in the family

The Swedish director Lasse Hallstrom once said, "I was watching a sitcom last night, and it was just so broad, not real at all". But if he ever watched the Korean weekday sitcom, "Have No Fear and Kick High", would he still feel that way?
The comedy also known as "High Kick!", and bursting with unconventional characters, ended its eight-month run last week.
Behind the success is Kim Byung-wook, 46, the show's producer and director.
Kim has produced about 2,000 sitcom episodes in his career, including "Soonpoong Clinic" (1998-2000), "No Interception" (2000-2002) and "Live Straightforward" (2002-2003). All three were also widely popular and known for their unique characters and stories.
Kim's normal pattern is to depict a huge family. In "High Kick!", three generations live together under one roof, and in each episode, relationships between husband and wife, father and son or the in-laws spell trouble.

December 29, 2004 ㅡ Hypertheque Nada at Dongsoong Art Center is hosting its annual end of the year film festival. The event began in 2000 as a way of screening movies that patrons might have missed, especially arthouse films.
Looking back on films released in Korea this past year, the 24 chosen by the organizers of the festival, "Nada's Last Propose", range from Korean to Spanish to German. The festival, launched on Friday, runs until Jan. 13 at the Daehangno theater.
Highlights include two films by Kim Ki-duk. His "Samaria" won the Silver Bear at the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival. The movie stars Seo Min-jeong as Jae-young, an underage prostitute whose pimp is her best friend, Yeo-jin (Kwak Ji-min). The two are trying to save money to escape to Europe. Screenings are today at 4 p.m., Jan. 3 at 11:20 a.m. and Jan. 7 at 6:20 p.m.
