2nd France-Korean Film Fest in Paris

The 2nd annual France Korean Film Festival (Festival Franco-Coréen du Film) will take place Dec 12 -18 in Paris. Presented in partnership with Association 1886, an organization of young students and filmmakers from France and Korea, the goal of the festival is to promote fresh and promising creative talent in Korea.

The event will screen ten features (five documentaries and five fiction works) from young directors along with ten short films. Included in this year's program are the award-winning festival favorite "Family Ties" ("The Birth of a Family") by KIM Tae-yong, Pusan premiere "Before The Summer Passes Away" by SEONG Ji-hye in her feature debut, YOON Jong-bin's "The Unforgiven" which screened in Cannes Un Certain Regard, NOH Dong-seok's Boys of Tomorrow.

SENEF'07 Draws Top Directors

Now in its 8th year, the Seoul International Film Festival, known as SENEF (the acronym comes from its original title, the Seoul Net and Film Festival) has evolved into Korea's most advanced cinematic event. It is also inviting some of the world's most innovative and renowned directors to its 10-day run which opens September 6th.
Japanese director Naomi Kawase, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year's 60th Cannes festival for The Mourning Forest, will make her first visit to Korea to present her film as the festival opener. After the screening the director will answer questions and talk with respected feminist film critic KIM Soyoung.

Other directors invited to present their films at the festival include Hollywood effects specialist Alan Chan with his own short film, Postcards from the Future, which is jointly opening the festival. KOFIC awards marketing support for arthouse/digital films

The Korean Film Council has announced the recipients of the second phase of its 2006 Marketing Support for Arthouse and Digital Films fund. The fund provides financial support to arthouse works or digital features to promote diversity on the nation's screens and to help such films compete in a marketplace with increasingly stringent commercial demands.

In the case of arthouse films, 50 million won (~$54,000) will be provided to pay for advertising and other kinds of marketing costs, including the cost of striking prints for release. In Korea's competitive distribution environment, low-budget works face a particularly difficult struggle in getting noticed by viewers, and so this fund is intended to provide assistance in this area.
