Apart from being famous worldwide, Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Al Gore and Zinedine Zidane have one other thing in common -- they were born in the Year of the Rat, according to the traditional zodiac system still widely used in Korea.

With the first day of the Lunar New Year tomorrow, rats, the first among the 12 animals in the zodiac, symbolize diligence, fecundity and cleverness. Kim Hoon, a top-rated writer, was born in the rat year, and nobody questions his diligence.

Forget dirty, germ-spreading rodents because the zodiac only focuses on the positive traits of each animal. There are plenty of role models for those who identify themselves with the rodent. Mickey Mouse is a fine example. Or Remy of "Ratatouille", a young rat who cooks delicious meals at a French restaurant.

In the Year of the Rat, Korean pop culture is led by those born in another, in 1972. Coincidence or cosmic determination? Readers may decide for themselves. Yoon Eun-hye, became Joinus' main model

Female fashion brand, Joinus replaced their main model from Kim Hee-seon (30) to Yoon Eun-hye (23) in 5 years. On 17th, the spokesman from IndiF (old Nasan) said "We have signed 1 year contract with Yoon Eun-hye. The contract starts from our spring season catalogue at the end of this year". Yoon Eun-hye's popularity had been rapidly increased after starring in high-hit dramas such as "Princess Hours" and "Coffee Prince".

Ever since the launching of the brand in 1983, Joinus have appointed the most popular female stars of the time as their advertising model, including Choi Ji-woo, Shim Eun-ha, Myeong Se-bin. Kim Hee-seon became Joinus' main model at 2003 and set the record of the longest model ever worked for the brand. The spokesman said "We decided to replace Kim Hee-seon because she no longer fit for the brand's image due to her recent marriage and her age".

Still making headlines despite her retirement, actress Shim Eun-ha gave birth to her second daughter last Wednesday.
Shim debuted in 1993 after being recruited by MBC. She became Korea's top actress after starring in "Art Museum by the Zoo" and "Christmas in August". In 2001, however, she suddenly quit acting, simply stating a desire for an ordinary life as a housewife. She married Ji Sang-wook in 2005 and hasn't appeared onscreen since.
Recently, Ji's work as a staffer for independent presidential candidate Lee Hoi-chang sparked rumors that Shim would reappear in the media as an influential politician's wife.
But all rumors seem to be for naught, as Ji recently said he won't take any political positions if Lee wins the election.
