Actors Shin Hyeon-joon and Heo Joon-ho will stage a charity concert Jan. 24 at the Melon-X concert hall in Seoul to raise funds for the needy. The guests will include singers Baek Ji-young and KCM as well as actress Choi Ji-woo.

The concert will be held as a preview of the actors' new movie "Last Present - 2007" due to open in February. A person from the movie's production firm said one of the movie's scenes shows a child who needs a liver transplant but has no money to pay for the surgery. Shin and Heo, who play the lead roles in the movie, decided to stage the concert in line with the movie's theme.

The concert will be held free of charge. Audience members will be welcome to make donations voluntarily. The raised funds will be donated to the production team of the KBS TV charity program "Love Request", which is aimed at helping those in need.

The New Year will be another one full of drama, as broadcasters prepare unique stories to grab audiences' attention. Korean dramas have always been at the forefront of domestic entertainment, for if a certain drama gains popularity, the actors ride on its success.

Last year, many TV soaps tried to portray the life of various jobs such as that of the baristas in "Coffee Prince", or intelligence agents in "Air City" and "The Time Between Dog and Wolf - Drama" and auctioneers in "Auction House". These dramas received favorable reviews ― some of them recorded high ratings ― from audiences who'd had enough of cliche scripts and melodramatic scenes. Continuing this trend, more professionals, from doctors to reporters and directors, are brought to the TV screen this year.

In conclusion, the interrelationship is inverse proportion according to the trend in 2007 box-office success in Korean film industry. Among the 100 movies released this year, only 4 movies had more than 3 million audiences, including "D-War" (8 million), "May 18" (7 million), "Voice of Murderer" (3.25 million) and "Le Grand Chef" which recently reached 3 million.

Among many movies that went into the black, following are those which closely reached the break-even point, including "Miracle on 1st Street" (Im Chang-jeong and Ha Ji-won), "Voice of Murderer" (Seol Kyeong-gu and Kim Nam-joo), "May 18" (Kim Sang-kyeong and Lee Yo-won), "D-War" (Jason Behr), "Paradise 1986" (Park Hae-il and Seong Ji-roo), and "Le Grand Chef" (Kim Kang-woo and Lee Ha-na). Hallyu star Choi Ji-woo and other celebrities will walk down the runway wearing the latest fall and winter designs by Korea's top designers for the Hallyu Fashion Festival on Oct. 21.

The Hallyu Fashion Festival will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Seoul Plaza, in front of City Hall in downtown Seoul. The fashion show, which is open to the public, is aimed at promoting the Korean fashion industry with the help of the popularity of Korea's top stars.

Choi, who starred in the Asia-wide hit dramas "Winter Sonata" and "Stairway to Heaven", and Jeong Joon-ho, who starred in hit films "Marrying the Mafia" and "My Boss, My Hero", are the top stars in the event.

Movie star Shin Hyeon-joon, 40, has extended his philanthropic activities overseas by constructing a church in Kazakhstan.

Shin has long planned the church-building project and had been saving up funds through his church here. In addition to the church built in Kazakhstan, two others in the Middle East region and China are being mapped out.

"It's been a childhood prayer to construct a church, and I am elated to have finally built one in Kazakhstan", the actor was quoted as saying according to his agency Olive9.

Having debuted in the 1990 epic film "General's Son", Shin has since transformed his charismatic heartthrob image into that of a compelling actor who can be both goofy and sincere.

He appeared in the popular gangster comedy "Marrying the Mafia 2: Enemy-in-Law" (2005) and touching human drama "Barefoot Ki-bong" (2006).
