KBS announced its spring lineup and have decided to discontinue "Drama City", and drama writers are urging for reconsideration.

Fifty-seven writers wrote a statement titled, "KBS, Rescue "Drama City"." They said, "There is no justification for the extermination of the one-act drama. As a public station, KBS must keep the value of the one-act drama, which may not earn money but is necessary for the development of broadcasting".

They said, "KBS is shaming their own value as they proudly admit that they are trying to destroy the one-act drama. We urge you to reconsider the discontinuation of "Drama City"."

This statement came under 57 writers, including Kim Yeong-Hyeon, Kim Jeong-soo, Noh Hee-Kyeong, Park Jeong-ran, Song Ji-na, and Choi Wan-gyoo....

A monthly magazine of the 'Korean Drama Script Writers Association' have printed an exclusive article on the perspectives of the Asian 'Korean Waves lovers' toward the Korean dramas.

Under the title, "The voice of the Asian fans toward the Korean dramas" the article includes a thorough analysis of the elements of attraction in the Korean dramas by the critiques of various Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, China and Japan.

Reporter Jen Ku Yang from 'The Hong Kong Economics Newspaper' said, "For example, previously, many Hong Kongnese only thought of Korea as a violent and unsettled country with large-scaled street demonstrations and violent conflicts. But from the sitcom "No one can stop them", they now see Korea as a creative, stable and scientifically advanced modern society. MBC's megafantasy historical drama "The Legend" (written by Song Ji-Na and Park Kyeong-Soo, and directed by Kim Jong-Hak and Yoon Sang-Ho) will be made into an animation.

G&G Entertainment (CEO: Jeong, Keuk-Pyo) said on December 5, "We sealed an agreement last November 21 with TSG Production, the owner of The Legend, regarding the production and airing of the animation The Legend on TV and in theaters".

Having recently broadcast its grand finale with an over 30% rating, "The Legend" is as popular as ever, and the industry is closely watching the public's response to its animation version.

"The story of the animation "The Legend" will be different from that of the drama", said Moon, Woong-Bin, director of the Content Team at G&G Entertainment. "We will introduce a new R&D institute for this animation to showcase original and extraordinary visuals".

The last episode of the TV series "Taewangsasingi" (The Four Guardian Gods of the King) airs tonight.

The drama's legacy, however, is expected to live on, especially now that it is showing on the small and big screens in Japan. The "blockbuster" TV drama is garnering a cult following with the likes of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" empire, with novels, books, CDs and DVDs among other products pouring onto the Korean and Japanese market.

The MBC drama series "The Legend" will be featured on screen for 6 months in theatres in Japan.

The drama production company said on the 29th, "The theatre premiere of 'The Legend' has been finalized. SSD which is in charge of investment, distribution, and others of the series will hold a press conference on the 30th in Tokyo with T-Joy, a Toei company with a national theatre network in Japan, announcing the premier schedule of 'The Legend'".

The 24 episode drama series will open in theatres in Japan, edited into 12, 2 hour episodes. Each episode will be viewable in theatres for 2 weeks each over a period of 6 months. Details on schedules and how many times they will be showed are still in discussion.

A drama series being released on the big screen after airing is a rarity not only for Korea, but also all countries throughout Asia. 5.1 channel digital sound, HD filming, and high CG quality are said to have contributed to this accomplishment.
