Japanese models on the rise in Korean show business

The story of how Ryohei Otani landed a coveted role on Korean national TV could make every model in Japan want to move to Korea. Three years ago, Otani, then 23, came to Seoul for two days to do a doughnut commercial. The first-time model, who managed to smirk somewhat awkwardly while holding a doughnut in front of the camera, caught the eyes ― and hearts ― of even those who didn't like doughnuts. Over the following months, Otani was brought back to Korea for more endorsements. By the time he moved his base to Seoul in 2004, he was already a star in Korea's lucrative advertising industry. Japanese-Born TV Star in 'Reverse Export'

The Japanese-born actress "Yoo Min" (27) is preparing for a triumphant return her homeland via the small screen. At a press conference on Thursday, Yuko Fueki, as her birth certificate reads, confirmed she has signed a contract with the influential management company Oscar Pro and is expected to appear on Japan's Fuji TV in a soap with the working title "Attention Please".

The actress is returning to her homeland five years after she left to come work in Korea in 2001.

"Yoo Min" made her debut in Korea with MBC drama "Our Home", followed by such dramas as "All In", and "Stained Glass". But it wasn't until last year's stunning performance opposite Son Chang-min in "Bad Wife" that she was launched into stardom here. The Japanese press has closely followed her work.

'Blue Swallow' Faces Turbulence

The upcoming film "Blue Swallow" seems to face strong criticism from moviegoers prior to its official release on Dec. 29.

The blockbuster film is a fictional treatment of the true story of Park Kyong-won, a female pilot of the 1920s, with the addition of fictional characters and narratives to tell the story of her career and love life.

But many argue that Park was pro-Japanese, participating in many propaganda activities during Japanese colonial rule and should be considered a traitor to the nation and its people. Some even suggest the movie should not be released.

In addition, it was belatedly discovered that Park was not the first female Korean pilot in Korean history as claimed by Korea Pictures, the film's maker, requiring the promotional campaign for the film to be changed. The first Korean female pilot turned out to be Kwon Ki-ok, who worked for the Chinese air force against Japan.

"Full House" emerges as the best popular drama in Thailand

Korean drama "Full House" starring singer "Rain" and Song Hye-kyo which is being aired from June 25 through channel 7, Thailand TV has emerged as the best popular drama in Thailand as the drama is now at its height.

"Full House" which is aired from 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday every week, has shown a topping program rating of 56% and 63% on July 16 and 17 respectively, according to a research result of Thailand Nielson Media Research, a program rating survey institution.

An official of KTCC responsible for Korean broadcasting agency on the spot, said: "Full House is garnering popularity as its bright sentiment like a fairy tale is agreeable to Thailander well plus their performance of Song Hye-kyo and Rain who is familiar to Thailander well
and suceeded in his Thailand promotion respectively".
