'Girl Scout' Showcases 'Ajumma' Power

"Ajumma". The word can be roughly translated as "auntie", normally referring to married women or those past the rosy bloom of their youth. In certain contexts it can be derogatory or even sexist, but it's also a fond term for all the mothers of the world.

Director Kim Sang-man celebrate ajumma power in his directorial debut, "Girl Scout". But there are, of course, no girls to be found here. Think of a pitifully amateur Charlie's Angels with four generations of women, from a 20-year-old to a grandma in her 60s, joining forces to get their money back from a swindler.

Our main ajumma is played by Kim Seon-ah, the lovable heroine of "My Lovely Samsoon" ("My Name is Kim Sam-soon"). Mi-kyeong is a 30-something-year-old divorcee trying to make ends meet for her young daughter.

Hwangjini Fashion Show to be Held in Seoul

A show of traditional costumes that were worn by the cast of the movie "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" will be held Sept. 8 at the COEX in Seoul on an outdoor stage.

The costumes will be demonstrated by actor Yoo Tae-joon, who played Byuk Kye-soo in the KBS TV drama "Hwangjin-i", as well as by Chae Min-seo, Heo Yeong-ran, Jin Jae-yeong, Ham Jae-hee and other celebrities.

Master Kim Jin-ok will stage Hwangjini's dance, which was danced by female entertainers in ancient times. A performance by a fusion traditional music team and the b-boy production "The Ballerina Who Loved a B-Boy" will also be included in the event.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Korea Welfare Foundation, the organizer of the event.

The Gangnam District Office plans to hold the event on a regular basis under the sub-title "2007 CAFF BOOM UP".
