Japan's highest-grossing anime retains pole position...

Makoto Shinkai's romantic fantasy "Your Name" is now the highest-grossing Japanese anime in history having recently overtaken Hayao Miyazaki's classic, "Spirited Away" (2001). Shinkai's critical acclaimed masterpiece entered the Korean market January 4 and became the first Japanese anime to enter in pole position in over a decade. During its second weekend out, "Your Name" added another 739,079 admissions (30%) and moved its total tally in Korea now to 2.4 million ($17.2 million). Worldwide, "Your Name" has grossed $290 million, enough to overtake "Spirited Away"'s $289 million...More

Japanese anime "Your Name" enters in pole position...

For the first time in over a decade, a Japanese anime has entered at the top of the South Korean box office. From 944 screens, "Your Name" captured 31.3% of the sales (832,040 admissions) to dislodge last weekend's number one, Jo Eui-seok's crime flick "Master"...More

"Master" marches into 2017 over "Rouge One"...

After an impressive opening over Christmas weekend, Jo Eui-seok's crime thriller "Master" (starring Lee Byung-hun, Gang Dong-won and Kim Woo-bin) – Jo's fourth film after "Cold Eyes", "The World of Silence" and "Make It Big" – remained atop the chart by attracting 1.3 million admissions (44%). Despite a small cut in screens, which dipped from 1,501 to 1,261, and the arrival of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", "Master" managed to carry its success forward into 2017 and move its total tally now to 5.4 million ($36.5 million)...More
