Dream - Drama (Drama - 2009)

nlike most Korean dramas, Dream is not focused on romance. It is about how Nam Jae-Il (played by Joo Jin Mo) and Lee Chang Seok (played by Kim Beom) dealt with set backs in their lives, struggled through tests and supported each other to success. However torturous their tests may be (and thankfully, the torturous bits are not overly long drawn), the drama is peppered with good humour and great lines.

Joo Jin Mo handled the multitude of emotions with ease - whether the shrewd career agent, the caring/supportive big brother to Kim Beom, the filial/loving family to his mother/sister, or the fair deal maker to his business partners. I enjoyed the bits on how Nam Jae-Il won the Japanese over to give him the tournament organization rights in Korea, how he cut win-win deals with Jang PD and various others, how the K-1 industry works, how the city government decides - realistic, well written and well executed. If you follow the growth of both Nam Jae-Il and Lee Chang Seok through their challenges, you will probably take away something that is useful for your life.

Unfortunately the drama did not received high viewership when it first aired in Korea, probably because of bad timing. Still, it is a very good drama that exudes positive energies, not soapy and melodramatic like many Korean dramas. Highly recommended.
