The "Korean Wave Gala Concert 2009" will be held at the Tokyo International Forum on July 11.
The concert will feature Korean singers who took part in the original soundtracks of Korean dramas which have been popular in Japan. They include Ryu, who sang the theme song of "Winter Sonata", Zero of "Beautiful Days", July of "Stairway to Heaven", and Hong Jong-myung of "Beautiful Lady" and "Happy Together" (starring Lee Byeong-heon). Actors Kim Tae-woo, 38, and Lee Tae-ran, 34, were selected to host the opening ceremony at this year's Jeonju International Film Festival. The JIFF, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, will run from April 30 to May 8 this year.
Kim is best known for his roles in movies such as "The Contact" (1997), "JSA - Joint Security Area" (2000) and "The Naked Kitchen" (2009). Lee has featured in TV dramas such as "Famous Princesses". In 2007, she made her film debut as the star of "Love Exposure". "Kim is one of those actors who can really own a movie, whether it's commercial or experimental", Min Byung-lock, JIFF's festival director, remarked in a press release. Min said that he is looking forward to Lee's future work. "I can feel [Lee's] passion and strength when she is on the screen", he said. The hit series ended with a bang last Sunday, garnering viewer ratings of 39.7 percent nationwide, according to AGB Nielsen Media research.Hoping to continue their winning streak, KBS is following it up with a light and comic romance about a radio producer and a disc jockey. A retired American teacher who fell in love with Korean soap operas has published her debut novel "Bird and Fish", a love story between a Korean man and an American woman. Adrienne Leslie (61) retired after working as a teacher for 16 years in the Korean neighborhood of Little Neck, Flushing, New York.
Her novel tells the love story between Hyun Jae-won, who has given up art and works as a clerk in a paint shop in New York, and Wendy Dale, an American teacher and Korean soap opera fanatic. Adrienne Leslie, the author of 'Bird and Fish', a novel about the romance between a Korean man and an American woman The book is full of references to popular Korean soaps such as "My Name is Kim Sam-soon", "Famous Princesses" and "Princess Hours".
