US distribution company KINO LORBER has picked up rights to LEE Chang-dong's most recent Cannes winner "Poetry". The film is to have its US premier this fall. The company picked up rights to the film in the wake of rave reviews at Cannes.
KINO LORBER is known for having bought many lauded international titles such as WONG Kar-wai's Happy Together, Michael Haneke's Funny Games, and Korean titles such as LIM Sang-soo's "The President's Last Bang" and LeeJae-yong's "Untold Scandal".
The distributor aims to promote the film as a possible contender for the foreign language film category at the 2011 Academy Awards. "Poetry" deals with an elderly woman learning to write a poem while fighting Alzheimer's and the horror of her grandson's involvement in a school gang rape.
The film's international sales agent Finecut did brisk sales of the title at the Cannes Film Market, selling to nine countries including Taiwan, Spain, Greece, Russia, former Yugoslavia, Benelux, and Brazil. ... |More

The Grand Prize for MBC's Entertainment Awards went to comedian and television host Yoo Jae-seok, Tuesday night.
The 37-year-old has now won the award for five consecutive years, including grand prizes from networks such as KBS and SBS, becoming the first Korean celebrity to do so.
"I am so grateful, but I am also very sorry. It's so easy to become boring when the program has been running for a long time, but I will strive to bring change and new items to the table", he said after receiving his award, mentioning his gratitude to fellow nominees Kang Ho-dong, Lee Gyung-gyu, Park Mi-seon and Lee Hwi-jae.
"I'm becoming a father next year and I hope I get to enjoy my programs with my child even through the year 2022", he added.
