Actress Koo Hye-seon, 25, popular in Taiwan as a "hallyu", or Korean wave, star, has been picked as the best Asian actress by Yahoo! Taiwan, Koo's agency, YG Entertainment said Wednesday.
Koo, who rose to stardom with her starring role in the KBS-TV drama "Boys Over Flowers", claimed the top place in the "Asia Female Artist" category of the "Yahoo! Asia Buzz Awards 2009".
She was one of the most "searched" stars by netizens in Taiwan, according to the agency.
Koo will attend the awards ceremony to be held in Taipei, Friday.
Koo has been wooed by Taiwanese producers to appear in dramas and music videos. Even before "Boys Over Flowers", Koo won fame by starring in hit dramas such as "King and I" and "Hearts of Nineteen".

KBS daily drama "Likable or Not", which had ratings up to 40%, ended on the 2nd.
This drama started with the intention to rethink the true meaning of family through the story of a remarried family from different bloodlines, backgrounds, and moral values.
But in the last episode, Baek-ho's (Kim Ji-seok) secret of his birth was revealed, and that purpose faded, leaving emptiness behind.
All the characters rounded off with forgiveness and reconciliation, and it couldn't escape the conventional aspects of the daily drama, which was pointed out as a limitation.
Even with the limitations of birth and the narrow-minded development, "Likable or Not" had record ratings and received love from viewers.
The first reason it was so popular was that the solving of the problems put in suspense in the storyline.

The KBS 1TV daily drama "Likable or Not" is now the most popular daily drama to have been broadcast after 2000.
On the 24th, AGB Nielsen Media Research released the results of a survey of the 20 highest-ranking TV programs by episode after 2000. The "Likable or Not" episode which aired on the 22nd ranked 17th with 43.9% ratings.
The daily drama edged in front of the 2003 MBC daily drama "Miss Mermaid" (43.6%, January 2nd) and the 2007 KBS1 daily drama "Hearts of Nineteen" (43.2%, January 2nd).

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, a TV ratings research company, dramas swept the top 10 list of highest rated TV programs.
The highest rating in 2006 was recorded by MBC's "Jumong", which posted 38.4% in average household ratings.
It was followed by "Famous Princesses" of KBS2 with ratings of 30.2%, the daily soap operas "Bizarre Bunch" and "Pure in Heart" ("Hearts of Nineteen") of KBS1 with 29.8% and 28.5%, respectively, and the SBS weekend drama "Love in Heaven" with 28.3%.
Among entertainment shows, "Imagination Plus" of KBS2 ranked the highest at 14th place overall with 19% in ratings, followed by "Gag Concert" on KBS2 at 16th with 17% and "What an Amazing World" on SBS with 16.9%.
"News 9" of KBS1 was the highest ranking news program at 19th place with 16.9% in ratings.
Meanwhile, the average TV viewing time of Korean households in 2006 stood at 7 hours and 7 minutes, unchanged from 2005.
