"Jungle Fish" Wins a Peabody

"Jungle Fish", a KBS 2TV youth drama, was included in the list of 36 Peabody Awards winners announced on April 1. This is the second Peabody Award garnered by Korea, following the 2000 winner, "An 82-Year-Old Young Man Lives in the Cabin" produced by KBS Cheongju.

Aired in May 2008, "Jungle Fish" shed light on the serious socio-educational issue of grade falsification. It was applauded for employing a new direction method at the time. The Peabody Awards' online site describes "Jungle Fish" as "interactive blogging was integral to the plot of this handsome film, a stylized slice of life among students at a ruthlessly competitive South Korean high school". The drama has won other prestigious awards, such as the best youth drama at the Seoul Drama Festival and an Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Prize.

2008 Seoul Drama Festival

The Seoul Drama Festival is scheduled to take place at KBS Hall in Yeouido, downtown Seoul next Tuesday on Oct. 14. The festival first took place in 2006 as the Seoul Drama Awards. It was decided to re-name the event as a festival and increase the entertainment program.

The festival proudly paints itself as the world's first television drama festival, hosted by the Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee and Korean Broadcasters Association, and sponsored by major local broadcasters KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS as well as Seoul Metropolitan City.

With this year's slogan "Enjoy, Star & Story" the competition part of the festival received a total of 152 entries from 33 nations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

"Jungle Fish" accuses realities of entrance exams

KBS will be airing the special reality youth drama "Jungle Fish" for 'family month'.

A jungle fish is a fish that lived in the African beach but was dropped into the jungle by a whirlwind. It hints at the situation of present-day youth who suffer from entrance exams to return to the beach (the future).

The drama will reenact last year's scandal of leaked test forms for Gimpo Foreign Language High School's and this year's scandal of leaked problems for the national scholastic assessment test.

The form of the drama is solving the scandal with a personal blog. It will also be like a documentary, using real clips from news and internet videos, and street interviews.

Park Bo-yeong, who was the younger version of Koo Hye-seon in SBS "King and I" and Min-ji of the movie "Forever the Moment" will star. Hwang Chan-seong from MBC sitcom "High Kick!" and singer Kim C will also join.
