The trend on television these days is "reality" and these are beginning to dominate productions.

Reality shows depict the stories of people of their lives. Unlike a drama or a talk show, the flow is more natural and most importantly, unpredictable. The programs delve deeper into meaning and look at those who are different. Boredom turns to entertainment.

Mnet Media launched their "star reality" programs a while ago, and they have become widely popular among other cliche programs.

"Off the Record Lee Hyo-lee" takes a look into the life of Korea's top singer. The cameras literally barge into her house, her studio and even her closet. Being a famous singer may have helped, but the program's popularity soared because it showed the "real" Lee. Fans are able to discover her personal side.

"Seo In-young's KAIST" also takes the camera closer to celebrities. The program was produced to give Seo, a member of the female pop group Jewelry, the chance...

Poignant Outspoken Critic

Mr. Jin made news for his scathing review of the domestic monster film 'D-War' and is again under the spotlight for criticizing the proposed fundraising to restore the burnt-down Sungnyemun gate. In a radio program, he blasted President-elect Lee Myung-bak's (now President) proposal to raise public donations to shoulder the cost. Jin is a leading social critic in the country. He graduated from Seoul National University with an aesthetics degree in 1986 and received a masters on 'Structural Semiology of the Soviet Union' from the same school in 1992. He then studied aesthetics, interpretative theories and linguistic philosophy at Free University Berlin but returned to Seoul during his doctoral program. The Korean robot Hubo has vigorously been traveling all over the world since its launch. Last year, Hubo traveled overseas six times, including a trip to the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. The robot has also appeared on TV shows five times for the U.S. broadcasters CNN and ABC and the U.K. broadcaster BBC, and attended a game EXPO in Spain this year in July. Early next year, Hubo will attend the Nestfest exhibition in Los Angeles, USA.

Those are impressive achievements given that research for Hubo's development began in 2002 with a total investment of just 50 million won. Hubo has emerged as a hallyu star and a symbol of Korea's progress in robot development.

Hubo's success is largely ascribed to its "father", KAIST Professor Oh Jun-ho, who implemented PR strategies targeting niche markets and chose the right timing to launch those strategies....

Graduates used to absolutes learn novel writing to expand horizons

DAEJEON ― A novelist in a science school is indeed a novel idea, but what is he doing there? That's a question Kim Tak-hwan, the author of "I, Hwang Jin-i", which has been adapted as an SBS drama and is now a hit series, has heard often since he took up the post of digital storytelling professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, known as Kaist.
"Well, obviously, I am teaching the students to write", he answers simply.
But that simple writing class has so far shown accomplishments beyond expectation since it launched as a new graduate course at Korea's top science academy less than a year ago. The Graduate School of Culture Technology was designed for science majors who wanted to apply their engineering skills in cultural fields.
Mr. Kim and his class have received offers from three of the country's major film production companies to write science -fiction scenarios for them to film. ...
