Contract marriage? The couple won’t live in the same room. In the end, they actually will anyway. Contract dating? Why be shy when you’re going to date anyways? What? Contract siblings? Korea Times Correspondent Even before K-pop, Filipinos were long fans of imported dramas. Soap operas and drama series have become a staple for daytime and primetime viewing in the Philippines. In the 1990s, Mexican telenovelas became the mania, with huge hits like "Rosalinda" and "Marimar" attracting ratings above 50 percent. Asian dramas, including Korean, have become hits in the 2000s. The huge demand from viewers for Asian telenovelas has prompted Philippine TV stations to import Korean and Taiwanese dramas. Top Korean drama series (locally called "Koreanovelas") like "Lovers in Paris", "Full House", "My Name is Kim Sam-soon", "Stairway to Heaven" and "Coffee Prince" were imported and dubbed in Filipino, instantly becoming hits. The success of "Dae Jang Geum" (or "Jewel in the Palace") in Korea was also replicated in the Philippines and many other Asian countries. The Taiwanese drama "Meteor Garden" was also a ratings success when it ai...| More
'King & Clown' star talks about his rise to celebrity, and fall back to earthThere are certain things you might expect when meeting a star actor: crazy good looks, fabulous lifestyle and, perhaps, a bit of attitude. Such was this reporter's expectation before an exclusive interview with Korean actor Lee Joon-ki on a recent afternoon. Lee, once a young and struggling actor from the port city of Busan, was catapulted to stardom with his impressive portrayal of an androgynous clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown". Today, Lee is ranked as one of Korea's biggest box office draws. The few films he has made have attracted almost 20 million people, according to the latest figures. This puts the 27-year-old actor on par with some of Korea's most successful veterans, like Song Kang-ho, Seol Kyeong-gu and Ahn Seong-gi. Yes. The looks were there, although many would agree that Lee's androgynous features aren't what you would call typical, bordering somewhere between m...| More
Actor Lee Joon-ki plans to go on a U.S. tour in the latter half of this year, following the ones in China, Thailand, Japan, and Hong Kong. Lee's agency says that a detailed schedule is being worked out now and it's coordinating the event so that his overseas activities wouldn't be in conflict with his domestic ones.Known for his amazing acting performance in the film "The King and the Clown" and dramas "My Girl" and "Iljimae", Lee has his own fan clubs in China, Thailand, Indonesia, and other countries. When he was in Indonesia for some volunteer work recently, the international airport there was paralyzed with Lee's screaming fans. His immense popularity overseas has motivated his agency to host a world tour. Lee has a fan concert planned for April 18 at the Olympic Park in Seoul. The concert titled "Episode 2" will be the foundation for his world tour. Meanwhile, he has left for Thailand on Thursday to model for Korean designer Andre Kim in a fashion show celebrating the 50th ...| More

State-run broadcaster KBS is greeting the New Year with not one but two dramas: a remake of the iconic classic "Boys over Flowers" and the epic "The Iron Empress".
Historical romance "The Iron Empress" hatches its 80-episode-long tale tomorrow night, spicing up the Goryeo Dynasty with the bloody escapades of a warrior woman played by veteran actress Chae Si-ra. Chae, the feline beauty who enchanted and frightened audiences in KBS' "Emperor of the Sea" (2004), reprises her role as a ruthless Amazon in the upcoming drama. "Men have been playing the lead in historical romances", said Chae, 40, at a press conference held on Dec. 19. "Now, I think it is time for women to do so. This drama will show people that there was an awesome and brave female leader during the Goryeo Dynasty". Fearsome would be a more accurate description of the heroine, who is aptly called the Iron Empress. The fourth wife of Goryeo Dynasty founder Taejo Wanggeon, the empress ruled as the regent for her so...| More
