Synopsis
From the writer/director duo that brought you the SBS hit, "Giant", Jang Yeong-cheol and Yoo In-sik respectively, have paired up again for their next success, "Salaryman". Part melodrama, part comedy, this series takes its cues from the epic legend "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms," with its characters taking on names from the story. (For any interested, DramaFever has the 5-part series available!) With its star-studded cast of Jeong Ryeo-won ("Princess Ja Myung Go", "My Name is Kim Sam-soon"), Lee Beom-soo ("Giant", "On Air"), Jeong Kyeo-woon ("Romance Town", "Sign") and Hong Soo-hyeon ("The Princess' Man", "Lie To Me") we're taken along the ride for what promises to be a new twist on a classic "whodunit" mystery in this noir-inspired drama.

One night Yoo Bang (played by Lee Beom-soo) enters a dark, mysterious villa with nothing but a flashlight, only to find an executive of the Chunha Medical Group, Ho Hae slouched in a chair, dead and Jin Ho Hae's niece, Yeo Chi (Jeong Ryeo-won) hiding behind a curtain. At Ho Hae's funeral, Yoo Bang and Yeo Chi are suddenly taken into custody for his murder. We're taken three months into the past to reveal what led to this murder and exactly who was responsible. During this flashback we meet Choi Hang Woo (Jeong Kyeo-woon), a director from Ho Hae's rival pharmaceutical company, who is undercover to steal the formula for their new drug and the Chief Researcher from Chunha Group, Cha Woo-Hee (played by Hong Soo-hyeon). The lives of these individuals will all be intertwined within these three months to reveal exactly just who murdered Ho Hae, and why.

  • [HanCinema's Drama Review] "You're Surrounded"

    2014/07/19,
Mixing of genres and giving a series its own style and identity are not easy things in the Korean drama industry. With certain elements being the definitive crowd pleasing ones, creators are often called to place all of their eggs in essentially the romance and melodrama basket. This is where a lot of series lose their way, by changing too much of what the work was supposed to be, what it began as and what it promised audiences. Despite these frequent failures, some creators manage to maintain the soul of their work while still offering rating boosters. 'You're Surrounded' is one of those works,...More
  • [HanCinema's Idol Actors] Hyung Sik and Lee Joon

    2014/07/12,
Hyung Sik Park Hyung-sik (Hyung Sik) is an idol who strives to excel. Best known for his work as a member of the boy group ZE:A - Children of Empire, he has dabbled in different performance arts such as musicals and the television scene of South Korea. The projects he chooses to take part in are varied and many, each providing unique challenges to the young talent. The start of his career found him in cameos, but his first dive into serious acting was in 'Drama Special - Sirius'. Like many idol actors, the role was the younger version of the adult main lead. However, this role required him to play twin brothers with opposite personalities, troubled pasts, and a severely strained relationship. Hyung Sik's acting was piercing and heartfelt. Each character he played was a distinct and clear person, which is no easy feat even for the most seasoned of actors,...More
  • [HanCinema's Actor Spotlight] Jeong Ryeo-won

    2014/05/24,
Actors exist in all types of form and relation to their art. There are stars who do not necessarily possess skills and/or talent, there are those who go for more arthouse projects, those who put more effort into their acting, those who go for promoting their persona and more. Jeong Ryeo-won's career is all about growth. Having gone from a singer in the now disbanded group 'Chakra' to a full time actress, which she has been for the last 12 years, Jeong has been through the process a lot of idols-to-actors do. Some actors show potential and achieve great performances from their debut. Some need to develop the skills to match their talent in time. Jeong seems to belong more in the latter category,...More
