The "Korean Wave Gala Concert 2009" will be held at the Tokyo International Forum on July 11.
The concert will feature Korean singers who took part in the original soundtracks of Korean dramas which have been popular in Japan. They include Ryu, who sang the theme song of "Winter Sonata", Zero of "Beautiful Days", July of "Stairway to Heaven", and Hong Jong-myung of "Beautiful Lady" and "Happy Together" (starring Lee Byeong-heon). Actor Park Hae-jin, who appeared in "Famous Princesses" and "East of Eden", will attend as a special guest. ...| More
By Lee Hyo-wonStaff Reporter Romanic poet Won Tae-yeon makes his directorial debut with a classic romance, "More Than Blue". Though featuring typical elements of the South Korean melodrama, "Blue" does not attempt to squeeze out tears from viewers. Rather, the director crafts a film that is poetically sparse, and also witty and hilarious as much as it is heartbreaking. Hallyu star Kwon Sang-woo, the heartbreaker from the tearjerker TV soap "Stairway to Heaven", plays the tragic male protagonist "K", yet another faithful one-woman man involved in a pitiful love triangle. To top it all off, he has cancer. With the little time he has left to live, he plays Cupid to marry off the woman he loves, "Cream" (Lee Bo-yeong), to an eligible bachelor, Ju-hwan (Lee Beom-soo), so he can rest in peace. "Blue" however feels more classic than cliched and the undying fidelity of the love-struck characters nostalgically evokes old romances. The talented actors also bring freshness to their pa...| More

Staff Reporter Newly wed actor Kwon Sang-woo was caught walking down the aisle once again ― this time with actress Lee Bo-yeong in the upcoming movie "More Than Blue" (working title "A Sad Story"). As its title suggests, the film is about heartbreaking, unrequited love. The wedding shoot, revealed to the press Monday in a Seoul cathedral, featured Kwon's character walking down the aisle with the woman he loves (Lee Bo-yeong) ― but only to marry her off to another man (Lee Beom-soo). Kwon returns to the romance genre after foraying comic or tough guy parts, such as in "Fate". He said he drew inspiration from his own marriage for his latest role. "I think being married enables me to think more deeply about playing melodramatic parts. Like my movie character, Kay, I also needed a lot of courage to bear the fruits of my love", he said. The "Stairway to Heaven" star made headlines last year when his clandestine romance with actress Sohn Tae-young be...| More

By Han Sang-heeStaff Reporter Princess Ji-woo is back. Choi Ji-woo, referred to as "Princess Ji-woo" by her Japanese fans and a famous hallyu star with her tall, model-like figure and innocent looks, is returning to the small screen with SBS drama "Celebrity's Sweetheart". Choi, who has been acting for 14 years, will play, not surprisingly, beautiful actress Lee Marie, who falls for a poor yet smart ghostwriter, played by fellow actor Yoo Ji-tae. The press conference, which was held last week, was full of not only reporters, but also overseas fans hands with flowers and presents for the 33-year-old actress and fellow actors. "I was inspired by the movie `Notting Hill'. My goal was to offer a full gift set of `melo' (melodramas)", said Boo Seong-cheol, the producer. Indeed, the short clip of the drama showed the perfect tools for a perfect Korean melodrama: a beautiful, yet lonely top actress, a poor but talented writer-to-be, a rich chaebol heir and even a nosy tabloi...| More
Two mega dramas of cinematic proportions are taking over weekday nights on SBS.
Though both promise to deliver, at best, a saccharine dose of romance and melodrama, great fodder for one and top stars for the other forecast a successful winter for the major broadcasting channel. Starting tonight, the long-awaited and aptly titled "Terroir" brings the magical world of wine to audiences. Headed by the talented film/television actor Kim Joo-hyeok and his beautiful co-star "Jumong" actress Han Hye-jin, this drama - arguably Korea's first dramatic series on wine - hopes to lure viewers in with lush scenes of France and the intoxicating combination of wine and romance. Responses to the upcoming drama, however, have been mixed. "Since this is a drama on wine, I hope that its content does not twist the truth in regards to its topic", one viewer wrote on the show's official bulletin board. "I am saying this because I am worried that a lot of snobs will come out of the woodwork after ...| More
